I could see this concept being a fun arcade game. I kinda wish the controls for scaling were more intuitive, but I got the hang of it eventually! With more polish and juice, it could be really satisfying to fit the shapes exactly to the holes. It'd be cool too to see the game get faster the longer you play. Of course, you'd have to make the upcoming hole be more visible and not blocked by the one you're passing through -- maybe the walls could clear or blow up as you pass through? That'd add to the game feel too. Anyway, nice job for 48 hours!

Developer

Hi so you noticed the player never exactly fits the holes since they are bigger but the game getting faster seems like a good idea and it shouldnt be too hard to implemen

I played a similar game about a year ago. Interesting but seemed familiar somehow

Developer

oh really i dont know about similar games i just had this random idea

really nice experience! I liked playing hole-in-the-wall but with cubes, and the music was nice. I unfortunately realized that if i held down and left I could stay the tiniest size forever. If you gave the player some kind of stamina bar so that it limited a player's ability to keep holding a size, I think that would help. Or maybe only allow the correct size to pass instead of any size smaller? Either way, great game!

Developer

yes i know that in fact almost everybody told me about it but you didnt notice the player get more score if he fits matching the gap size i think restraining the player to pass if he isnt the right size feels to hard a stamina bar would be right

I enjoyed it, until i bored myself by cheesing with left+down. After a while I noticed that you get more score if you exactly match the hole (it takes careful watching of the score to notice, which you don't have time for when enjoying the gameplay).

I suspect some audio-visual feedback would make that clearer, and also incentivise players to not cheese with staying the smallest size, but instead chase the high of the perfect match.

One other point i had is that it sometimes was hard to tell if I was lined up properly, so some kind of projection of where you're going (or lines on the ground as synesthesia34 suggested) would be nice.

This one has potential!

Developer

yes that a problem i was aware of but i didnt really have any good idea on how to fix it maybe killing the player if he stays the same size too long ? and the i didnt think the perspective was so bad :

I think the first step should be to make it more clear that you get higher score, and making it feel good to actually fill up the holes.

But there would still be people who optimise away the fun, so maybe a timer that kills you after holding the same size for too long. But then you could just release it and then hold it again. I guess you could check how many holes you had passed through with the same size.

Also maybe killing the player isn't necessary, there could also be some kind of score penalty. But either way it would need to be communicated clearly.

Another possible solution would be returning to default size after each obstacle. Then you might also make it so you don't need to hold the keys, but could just tap them. Which would be an accessibility improvement.

If you decide to develop this further I think it would be really nice to play with controller.

i just tought maybe removing score if the play dont fit enough gaps with the same size (and tell him too) and adding controller wouldnt really be too hard probably like 5 minutes since i already use unity axes

I can't figure out how to start the game. I'm at the main menu, but the only things I can see to do are click the 'don't click me' link and click the quit button.

Developer

oh really thats weird it seems to work for other people it should look like this

Very weird! This is what I see:

Developer

oh it seems the title panel stretched all the way to the play and credits button i had some problems similar to this and i just moved the buttons a bit lower but this is worst than i tought

Sick atmosphere and aesthetic. I could listen to the background music while playing this game all day.

Very easy to cheese by doing a left + down arrow. Makes it press "A" and "D" simulator in a cool atmosphere after that. Not the most unique but well executed and on theme! Good work.

Developer

ye i spent too much time doing the atmosphere and i knew the game wasnt original but thats the best idea i could think of also if you fits the gap while being the same size as it you get more score :

Good work! I noticed the game soft-locks if you restart from the pause menu. Make sure you set the time scale back to 1!

thanks for me telling me i didnt even notice that !

great game. High Score: 24200. 4.5/5. would love some lines on the ground to help with the perspective, can be hard to tell sometimes if the cubes is lined up sometimes. But great game :)

nice score i didnt really think perspective would be a problem it felt good for me
