The actions you can take are notes on the ever-changing muscal scale. Also the protanganist is a merperson and those have scales.

I'm not entirely sure how the tonic and scales affect any decisions I made. I died the first attempt, but on the second, I simply blocked 4 times, then took zero damage the rest of the game, while I attacked. If the A major key was missing, I could use the A flat one.

Didn't really understand how my choices affect the scenario. the log system notified me of damage done and stat changes, but I wasn't communicated my stats or my opponent's stats so it is difficult to understand what is going on and if I'm doing well or losing.
I can see there was alot of thought put into the concept but I think the execution is lacking. maybe you can explore the concept further outside of the jam? I was intrigued by the concept of shifting scales that affect my possible actions but wasn't sure how this came together to a cohesive game. A for effort!
