The main thing I'd recommend is the shuffled list of wild magic effects, and removing the one that does nothing so people can see all the work you put into the other effects
Very helpful feedback to implement. Thanks!
This is a great concept and I loved the visuals, escpecially the blend of 2D and 3D. Platforming was tricky - people have already mentioned the lack of shadows and the jump was very floaty, platformers tend to control better with a sharper downwards curve than upwards. Overall, I think this would be great with a bit more time to polish the individual parts
Thank you for the kind words!
I immediately loved the art and colors, and the idea is solid. Though it was a bit hard to platform without something like a shadow to tell exactly where the character is. I think the wild magic should be triggered more often--it is such an addictive gamble to cast random magic like that!
We were wanting to add a lot more with the wild magic, but 48 hours is such a crunch! Thanks for trying it out, the shadow is definitely the biggest thing that we wanted to add at the last minute too.
This was cool! As everyone else has already said, a shadow would definitely help, but overall I found the controls to be precise and consistent, and I like the look of it too. I wish there were more fixed-camera 3D (2.5D?) platformers like this!
thanks so much for the positive feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it
Really liked this entry a lot. Enjoyed the mechanics and am a huge megaman fan so definitely saw some nes era megaman influence in the players art. Huge fan of the pixel art mixed with 3d. If I had one piece of constructive criticism it would be that depth perception was pretty hard to feel and by the end of the game I had cleared all enemies and spent most of my time getting through the platforming bits. Don't really have any good suggestions of how to make it more readable though because I suck at 3d. Maybe some shadows or something? Either way had a really good time with this game and hope you get more plays and ratings as you deserve them. It sucks how many people stray away from download only games. I very begrudgingly have been doing all my games in webgl to get more plays.
thanks so much for the kind words. Megaman was a definite inspiration for it. I totally agree on the shadows. It would help with the depth perception a lot but just ran out of time. I'd like to do webgl builds but they always seem to break things for me lol
yea I have issues with the WebGL builds every single time without exception. The version I always end up with is subpar to what the downloadable version would be. One thing I’ve adopted recently that has helped though is ending the jam day with a build and testing it out regardless of where the game is at. There will always be some kind of bugs that don’t appear in the editor and then you can address them the next day. But either way there are definitely people out there who check out the download only games me being one of them.
Yeah I would have loved to do that. For some reason my time management did not seem to be very good this time. Probably because its only the 2nd time creating something playable in unity :D so was learning a lot in the process of building
oh didn’t realize this was only your 2nd game! That’s very impressive! My 2nd game was not nearly this good you are progressing very well.
Yeah, I've mostly created games in Game Maker Studio 1.4. This and my Tremors Run! game are the only two I have created in Unity so its all been a learning experience.
Missed platforms, became a whisp, lost powers, fell through the floor. Having a shadow would be great!
Cute game!
totally agree on the shadow, I just ran out of time before I could add them. When did you fall through the floor if you don't mind me asking? That's a new one lol
I think it was on the higher, not floating platform. Felt like the sprite got in between the cubes. I could be wrong :)
Ah gotcha! thanks for the info. I had problems with glitching between the blocks earlier in the development but thought I fixed that. i may have just left a little bit bigger gap as I got in a hurry
Looks great and quite fun
The player not having a shadow makes platforming very frustrating
Sometimes the player wouldn't turn around, making combat unresponsive
Still, good job on your game!
I totally agree with the shadows, I just ran out of time when I was adding them. Thanks for the good feedback
