Really cool concept but really rough art and mechanics. Not all items had feedback colors and sometimes the character wouldn't pick up the items. If the tutorial was the first level of the game it would've been better. I think you did not need to have a 'should have picked' feedback color and should let the player figure it out by trial and error with just the other two colors. With more polishing this could definitely be a great game!
Thanks for your feedback! Seems like everyone has the same complaint: small pickup range, feedback color, and the necessity of tutorial. These are certainly something I need to improve :3
Thank you for your entry into the jam - I also experienced the small pick up area, and cracked straight on playing but definitely needed the tutorial. Thought it was fun though, thanks again!
No prob! And thanks for hosting this Game Jam! And yeah I'll remember the lesson of small pick up area and integrating the tutorial next time :P
Quick maths! Sometimes I would be on top of an item but not pick it up. And on the results screen, there were some items that weren't green, yellow or red, which was confusing. A good concept in need of some polish.
Yeah, another player reported that the item pick up range is really tight, lol. I should have added an indicator telling you if you'd pick up an item if you press space bar now.
About item having no color at the score screen, it means that you didn't pick up the item nor is it in the optimal solution. I'll have to find a way to make it less confusing, lol.
I feel like if given the time and resources to polish this, it could be an entertaining minigame. I especially like how the theme was interpreted as storage size. However, it's gameplay is confusing if you don't play the tutorial (which is odd to have in a separate area considering the simplicity of this game) and pressing space on top of an item to collect it is a bit clunky.
I do hope this becomes a bigger game though as I'm curious to see how this gameplay loop can be used in a longer game with polished visuals and sound.
First of all, thank you for the constructive comment :3 Yeah, I really should combine the tutorial and the normal game play. Perhaps using the first stage as tutorial would suffice. Using space key is intuitive to me but, yeah, I should experiment or allow the player to configure the key.
Not sure about this game becoming big, but I sure can see this being embedded inside a bigger game like you said :3
got a good score :) pick up zone felt tight :P
nice job! also yeah I should have increased the pick up zone :P
Very simple and enjoyable game, I am not good at it tho :D
Thanks! And yeah I am not good at this either :P
