Nice idea having a farmer as a platformer character! Haven't seen that before. The level design was done quite well with an increasing difficulty.
In the tutorial level I wondered why "Y" didn't do anything until I figured out that was meant for controllers only. Maybe you can do something to clarify that.
I had to redo the last level a few times and in the end solved it by doing one jump at the start of that level from the edge of a ledge to save one rock. Don't know it that's the intended solution, didn't feel right, more like loop holing.
Personally I found the music - which I do like - to be "eastern" themed, like ancient China or so, something the game's theme doesn't match.
That's a thing that i heard before of some friends and i can see why some people see why they saw a china/japan vibes, the harp can sounds a lil bit like Kotu, but the song is really more in a greek modal.
I tried to do a steampunk ( Lethis) / Braid/ Journey vibe, in a drama-relaxing way. Eastern songs usually has more pauses and are longer and kinda weird in the melodies (the pitch isn't tuned as we are used to hear ) . But still, thanks for the review and i face it like a complement. "Eastern" songs are REALLY hard to compose XD
Fitting main theme and sounds. ^_^
Nice pixel art and camera motions.
Funny mechanics.
Overall enjoyable.
Visually though i think stone, dirt, and forks stick out too much. They are different in style from the character and floaties and stone coloration feels out of place.
Stone coloration weirdness is like when you edit a photo and paste in a human from another photo, and one of the reason a pasted human visually sticks out is because he was shot in another lighting conditions. Unless you manually edit color levels of a pasted human and do a ton of other manipulations he will continue to stick out.
This is one of the reasons i don't really like working with textures, esp coming from different sources.
Gameplay-wise one thing i wish is a reset button or at least a possiblity to kill yourself with forks.
I got stuck on a second level with seeds and couldn't get out of a stone womb below.
Also some minor bugs:
* Inability to lay dirt when pressing one's face against the wall.
* First level with seed introduction i ned to complete 2 times because somehow the exit door just led me to the same level all over again.
Of the art, I only brought in the fork, the hat, and the seed. The rest is made by hand. I wasn't really thinking much about lighting on the rocks, since I was just focusing on making a tilemap that didn't look awful. Overall, yeah, the art is super rushed and non-cohesive. That's mainly because I figured iterating on gameplay elements was more important than making a cohesive art style. The art process was pretty literally: start making it and only redo it if it looks awful. Originally, the setting was to be different per level, but no time ^.^, so rocks.
There actually is a built-in reset. If you hit esc or start on a controller, it brings up a menu to restart the level or quit. I understand that in game jams, you don't assume normal controls stuff is true, so I get why you didn't find it.
Thanks for the input and letting us know about bugs :).
Nice little puzzle game. I love how you teach the mechanics with level design instead of text. I especially liked the seed item, although it was a little hard to line up when the target was off screen.
A simple paltform-puzzle game but with a very original mechanic. Would love to play more levels!
The soundtrack is pleasing, in some spots some tracks overlap, but it creates a charming and relaxing mood together with graphics, cold colors but very suggestive. I really like your color palette!
Good job, really nice team!
Thanks!
I intend to make one or two more songs after the voting. I'm currently working in one actually.
very nice audio i love it. how do u set the background in motion?
oho..that animation thing..I guess ...cool
Yeah you just tile the background all the way to outside of the level boundaries. You scoot the whole bg in one direction until it's about to run out, then you reset it.
oho..I see..I will going to try that in my future games. Thanks for the information😊
Very nice! Personally really enjoyed the option to play with the controller! Music fits very well and very good job on the main character design also.
My only annoyance was that it was rather easy to get a ballooned block stuck and have to restart. Would have been nice if you could e.g. throw a dart to get your block back.
But really good entry, also liked the level design.
Yeah, definitely that was the only thing I wasn't able to think of a good fix for in time.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the input.
Cool puzzles. Controls are a little funky though.
Yeah I got attached to a bad control scheme and didn't feel like changing it, pretty much.
Understandable
