Crazy unique controls! I had a hard time performing the air dash...

Submitted

Nice! I had to read comments to understand wall jumps, but otherwise really cool!

The mechanics are super nice, the music is very weird but sounds cool like this has everything to be a good game but the wall jumping just made me so frustrated I just got to level 3. Maybe I just suck at it, but it just did not feel very snappy :'(. Take a look at : http://www.nitrome.com/games/toxic/ which has a very pleasing wall jump implementation. Otherwise top notch!

PS: ALLOW ME TO GO FULL-SCREEN PLEZ!!! xD

Developer

Thank you for your kind comment.

Toogle Fullscreen -> O-key (oh)

walljumping is actually pretty easy, if you know how. The tutorial sucks, i know :x
Jump against the wall, and HOLD the direction key,  then press the other key (the direction, in that you want to jump). HOLD that key too.
AFTER the jump, release the "old"-direction key, and use it to jump, when you reached the wall on the other side. You can see, if a walljump is possible, when the character is spawning grey praticles on the wall.

I learned ALOT in this first GameJam... For example: including the key-mapping in the game... or making better tutorials.
Maybe the controls felt easy for me, because i haven't done anything else a whole week, so i though it would be easy and understandable... sorry for that.

Cool game! I like how you used the two-button mechanic to play the game. The level design is also really good and varied!

Points for improvement, the "Wild Jam" and the "Godot" buttons in the main menu close the game. I think it shouldn't do that. Also, pressing spacebar brings me to the main menu without even a warning! It was bad at the start when I was trying to figure out what was jump, so I accidentally went back. It's a slight inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless.

Can't wait to see you expand on this!

Developer

Thanks you for your comment.

The "Wild Jam" and "Godot"-Buttons close the game, AND should open the default-browser with the webpages. (At least it does on my system...)

But you are right, i should seperate esc, enter and space :x

Yes, it does open the links to the webpage. However, it shouldn't close the game when it does that :P Or I guess you planned it? Then let's just agree to disagree regarding the best way to handle that :)

I'm impressed by how much you were able to squeeze out of just two buttons! I do wish there were a controller option. I can't do platformers on WASD very well (esp wall jumping!).   The music was pretty crazy and I liked the Bass drop.   I also really relate to the spaghetti-code comment. Our first several jams my code was pretty bad. Over time I'm finally starting to recognize better patterns and I can slowly see my code turning more into Ravioli's, which are a little easier to deal with.

Nice job :)

Developer

Hi,

i'm very pleased about your comment.

You cann play with game-controller. The controls are L1 and R1. (and some more buttons. You can even play with the mouse-buttons)

I hope my code (under stress) gets better very soon, because i REALLY like Ravioli :P ( Now i have plans for dinner, thank you!)

Submitted(+1)

oh whoops! yea, L1 and R1 were a LOT easier for me. Thanks for the heads up and sorry that I missed that on the game-page. I made it a lot further this time :)

Developer

I also experimentet with controller-rumble. But i wasn't able to get it right :/

Very cool implementation. Game felt very polished and I was a big fan of the speed running aspect!

Developer

Thank you!

Fell free the share your best times!

I'm very interested in other players times!

very special controls , especialy the two buttons retriction ,  and i realy love the mecanics you created from only the two inputs , wonderfull job!

The game design really is interestng! I think it was hard to code all the character events... I feel a bit lost with all these cables and buttons but it sure is a good job here! Never thought being a juice-factory worker was that hard!

Developer(+1)

Well, the character-controll grew over time, so it wasn't that hard. Tho most difficult thing was to find the bugs in the huge code-mess at the end while debugging xD

Always a hard part for sure! In the last few hours, I added some levels and realized that in one of these new levels, a feature didn't work. I panicked a bit but I tried to move it just a little bit and it worked... I still don't know why it bugged XD

I kept dying on the the same part. didnt get past the tutorial level.

checkpoints would have been nice.

your controls are wonderful, only thing is the wall jump does not work when you are sliding down the wall. it's slightly annoying.

i love the menu design.

Developer

You can only walljump once from one wall. Then you have to touch a wall from the other direction or the floor.

I love that you took the 'juice' wildcard literally. Haha. This feels surprisingly good for being controlled with only 2 buttons. And the music really enhances the hectic feeling of the level design. Really nice!

Developer

Thank you, i'm really glad that you like it :D

Haha! The music is funny and it's surprisingly beneficial here to set a such mood, because it balances the challenging gameplay. I chuckled many times even when I struggled. It's also cool, that it's possible to choose level from the menu, It wasn't obvious at first, but I discovered it second time playing, when I wanted to continue from where I left off first time. Menu is really well done and looks fantastic. However, the in-game graphics is obvious programmer art. :D Meaning it's not necessarily appealing, but it's well readable, and hey, it works! ;)

Thank you!

You are right, i'm a terrible artist. Everything that LOOKS good, is not from my hand :P

Super cool game. You did a great job with the control: only two buttons, but it might be the best wall jump of the jam (based on just a few games. Also the level design is great, and how many levels did you create? I stopped at level 9 after dying at the last stage of the level, I might come back to it later!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you!

There are 10 Levels.

The last level is VERY hard and has some performance-issues on lower-end hardware. But i did not have enough time to track that problem down :(

PS.: you can select the levels in the menu!

Speedrun-Timer only is activeted if you start with Level 1.
