Interesting idea! Really challenges the idea of what a game is, in a very good way (I promise I mean that positively!). This is exactly the type of game I'd love to play on my phone when sitting and waiting for something, with maybe some little achievements when you fend off enough characters.
thank you! i think i was mildly afraid of the experimental + narrative aspect of it, which held me back a little. and then i definitely ran out of time for some "gameplay" parts of it. but thank you so much for that feedback!
I like the story, but the game play it's a little bit confusing, I think you could have done a point click game or more a storyteller type, will fit better in what you trying to do
thanks!
Well done on doing everything yourself, and on completing your 2nd GWJ!
I "made it" to the end, bosses won but only by random chance (I just left it running after I think I'd seen all the content).
The story was pretty good, I think with some more game play elements I would have gotten into it more. Pretty big endeavour for a gamejam though. Congrats again!
your experience pretty much sums up how it is! with more time and/or more experience hopefully i could've made it a little more fun to play.
anyways, thanks for your feedback! :)
The voice acting, story, and art were all well thought out. I like how tongue-in-cheek the references are. Movement- I might think about standard key bindings (WASD) unless how we're moving is essential to the storyline. It would be more intuitive for the user to get around. I'd also think about in game directions. I enjoyed how you had the enemies staged and how we could tell which boss was coming and from where. That made sense as soon as I figured it out. In the end, I did what everyone else seems to have done and let the enemies win, as it seemed like I wasn't progressing otherwise. For the sake of time/win condition, maybe add a timer that once it runs out we win by default if we stop them from taking too much of the crystal. That could wrap it up to make it feel more final. I understand though, the time crunch is hard and part of the fun :) I do think there's something worth continuing here though. Keep going when you can.
thanks for the feedback! the character that momentarily comes out of the house on the menu screen hints to a whole dynamic that i didn't manage to implement. i wanted to have fragiles as some sort of creatures that help you in defeating the enemies, which would've become more and more invasive with time.
if time had allowed it!
thanks a lot for your feedback! there were definitely plans to increase difficulty (increasing enemies spawning rate), and gameplay elements being added to help you fight them off. but all that remained in my head, sadly.
thanks for your kind words! :)
as you've pretty much all found out, the gameplay aspect in indeed fairly limited, with this one. it was meant more as an experimental, narrative experience, and a project for me to learn a bunch of stuff.
so there are indeed no way to win this, although there was definitely a bunch more in the plans that ended up having to be left out. (the two characters on the menu scene, for instance, were planned in a part of the story that didn't make it.)
still, thank y'all for playing and for your feedback! <3
I loved the voice acting and the audio, and the message is an important one, of course.
The gameplay is very simple, but there was very little guidance. Is the anything more than stopping the three factions for as long as possible?
Overall, it was very calming and pleasing to play. Great job!
I really liked the intro and voice acting. The game itself was a bit weird I wasn't sure what to do-- I figure I was supposed to stop them from destroying the crystal but does that mean the game would never end? So I just sat there and let them destroy it (it still took a very long time). Anyway nice job using the tilemap etc. I like the soft look, the color palette. I didn't really think the music matched the tone of the game however.
I liked the voice acting but the game was kind of confusing. I could not figure out how to win.
This game is absolutely confusing.
I like the music becomes intensified when any one of the factions gathered half of the progress bar, I attempted to stop them stealing the crystal, yet they still coming and seems like I can't really win the game no matter how long I kept doing that.
I let Bosses faction "win" the game in the end.
