Loved pixel art, atmosphere, and sound design of this game. Reiterating from a previous comment on another game that it seems the most fun game designs are the simplest ones, and strumming this one indeed felt like playing an instrument (almost independently from the varied sounds from destroying enemies, but that certainly helped too). The style and simplicity make Undertaken memorable. An impressive solo effort.

If I had to suggest any improvements, it would be a more explicit loss condition (I originally thought the idea was to ensure none of the enemies hit the grim reaper, but I'm not sure? It seems to rather be letting an enemy pass without being destroyed). Liked that additional enemies appeared, and the way to defeat them required more effort in addition to worrying about the others. Challenging stuff.

Fantastic work on this one. Very polished entry.

So much nice stuff going on in this game!

You really use the engine features in a tasteful manner. Line renderer, spatial audio, audio randomizer, particles, swaying trees. Really well made game!

I reached level 9 I think, never saw what my final score was. It felt like it had some sort of tempo problem, like 45 quite uneventful seconds, and then going nuts with the mouse hand :D Not sure how it could have been improved... I'll have to ponder...

Anyway, def one of the most polished games in the jam and I had fun playing it!

thanks! You’re #4 on the leaderboard, there’s a bug where it only updates when the game starts

Dreamlo? :D

Well, we had a bug where the game sometimes crashes just before showing the submit highscore screen. But don't tell anyone. Those who don't know about the leaderboard might not understand that the game actually crashed!

I like your game, it feels like a spooky fruit ninja game, the cutting animation is excellent! how did you do it?

Developer

Honestly I just snagged it from the pate bin link in this tutorial.

Presentation is great from the beginning, great polish. Cool cursor and cutting animation, it was a nice surprise that the same screen and cursor is used for actual gameplay.

"Cutting" (I guess not killing, or slaying) monsters feels very nice with sfx and animation / particles / UI feedback.

One thing that bothers me is that I could type max 5 characters into the highscores name - although I wasn't good enough to be in top 5 anyway ;)

Great job!

This is a cool game. The atmosphere really works well. It felt satisfying moving around the scythe. Well done!

I really love the pixel Art in this. I also love the small details like they eyes of the reaper following you a bit or the particles. I love the addition of a high score board, tough it did not seem to work for me sadly.

Would have been nice to have some indication of when i'll get a combo, as is it felt a bit random.

Developer

Thanks! The high scores are there, unfortunately there's a bug where it only loads when you start the game.
