What a fun game, I did not read anything, so I thought it was a platformer at first. Imagine my surprise when these masses of hostile animals started coming from all over the place. Took me a bit to find out I could shoot them, also I had to close the game and read the controls to find out I could dash. So yeah some ingame explanation would have been helpful. The game also sometimes crashed for me after I died the first time. Still a pretty fun entry!
Thanks for the feedback! I only started testing the game near the end of the deadline and unfortunately I couldn't figure out why it sometimes crashes on death in time. I suspect it has something to do with the player detection after death.
A giant mouse landed on my head, and I couldn't get him off. It was silly enough that I didn't mind that I lost. As mentioned, really nice animations on the cat. Since I downloaded straight from the submission page, I missed the controls in the game page. Having some reminder in-game is always helpful. The jump and movement controls themselves felt good to me, and jived well with the animations.
Nice first jam submission! Looking forward to more. Playable web builds help in getting more players and feedback.
Thank you so much for your response and advice, it really do mean a lot to me! I wanted to export a web build but I realized too late that my Godot version doesn't support it as I was using Godot 4 instead of 3. And duly noted on the controls and the enemy chase AI.
Exporting to web from Godot 4 might not work for everyone, but it should. I make my projects in the Compatibility Mode (options in top-right of Godot editor), and when editing the jam page itself, I check the box that says "
SharedArrayBuffer
support". That's been working for me, at least.I LOVE THE ANIMATIOOOOONNNSSSS xD
Seriously I had so much trouble animating a cat, and yours is so fine
I only have 2 things you can maybe improve upon : the background's movement is a bit strange (maybe it is just me) and I don't know how I can raise my score
But jumping around while the whole zoo tries to eat you is so fun xD
Thank you so much for playing! Your comment just made my day. That cat animation took so long to do for me lol. I tried doing everything myself and that animation took almost an entire day just to get right. And yeah, I didn't have much time left to do other stuff I wanted to, including fixing the parallaxing on the background and the scoring system, which is just (base score from enemy type) x (combo).
I am happy to say that your work paid off then !
Do you plan to continue working on it ?
Probably not, though I will probably take a few of the things I did here into future games. I do also plan on joining the LSDJam later in a few weeks once I'm done with finals for this semester.
