Gridlock

Game Description
Survive as long as possible against waves of enemies

How does your game tie into the theme?
The player plays a parasite and must defend himself against the invasion of other parasites. The square has the specialty of being able to contaminate other shapes so that they fight for it. We could imagine other kinds of parasites with other capacities

I really enjoyed playing this, never seen grid movement used in this context but I thought it was a fun idea. Congrats on your first game jam :)

Thank you :)

Although many have complained about the controls, I thought having to click to move on a grid created an interesting and unique challenge. Admittedly there's a reason most people don't go for this design, but I didn't think it was out of place in this game.

However, I think this is a great first jam submission! You did a good job fleshing out the game with the waves and upgrades. If you make any of this type of game in the future, you may want to look into increasing the wave intensity logarithmically as it will get the player to more difficult waves at a decent rate but then doesn't drown them in later levels.

I may have encountered a but where I tried to heal but my health didn't seem to go up, or maybe it just wasn't updated.

Overall, great job, hope you can compete in the next jam!

Thank you so much for your comment.

Indeed, the increase in difficulty needs to be reviewed.  For the moment I am simply increasing the number of enemies but it should certainly be smoother and not just increase the number but also play on the type of enemies, life points, damage etc...

I see what you are talking about regarding life points and indeed there is a problem with updating the life bar. I didn't update it after the level up screen and so it only updates with the next damage taken.

Thanks again for you feedback.

good idea with level ups and the controls are simple, but maybe on AWSD would be better. Good job!

When I pressed Esc a lot of words came out.

Great entry for a first-timer. You've got enemies, shooting, upgrades. Well done.

It definitely calls out for easier controls and audio. Otherwise, solid game.

Thank's. For the first time I wanted to focus on a gameplay loop and I was "forced", given the lack of time, to put aside certain aspects such as design and sound design which also require learning for me. It might be in an update. Thank you so much for your comment.

I've never seen gridlock movement be used in a real-time game setting. Very interesting movement because of that. It almost felt a bit like the movement of a MOBA with the pathfinding of the character.

Developer

Thank you very much, I wanted to try to put at least one wildcard. I added the visible grid because, without it, the movement was "less natural"

It was really interesting how you incorporated the gridlock system into this type of game. Well done.

Developer

Thank you very much ;) I'm happy to have participated in this first jam. I learned a lot of things including this way of moving a player.
