Between the autotargeting burning mana I wanted to use to seal gravestones and the gravestone sealing itself seemingly locking the player in place for a crucial second it kind of felt like I fighting the witch more than the ghosts half the time. Still, I appreciate the attempt at a not-entirely-standard control scheme. Besides that, it was pretty fun and it was just the right length to not outstay its welcome.
Really great concept!! The art, the animations and the SFX was on point! Such a well made game and really captured the theme and the wildcards
For some feedback:
I'm personally not sure how I feel about the mouse movement, maybe one that follows the mouse rather than clicking as it didn't feel super smooth at times. (So if the mouse is sorta in the middle of the character then they would stop moving) Or even just WASD movement I think could've worked well but I like the idea of mouse!
Some enemy variety would've kept me hooked on this game!
The mana and health flowers maybe could've been clearer. I think they blended in TOO well and I ignored them until I ran out of mana on the first time
Mana Regen I think would've been a nice quality of life, even just a tiny amount
Overall, really great job! This game felt almost roguelike (almost like Brotato and Vampire Survivors) so if you plan on working on this game in the future to that extent, would definitely love to see that sorta style be implemented! (Hit me up if you do create something like that hahaha)
Super charming! Great job on the audio, all the choices fit so well. I loved the ghost attack animation too! I think it ended up being just the right length for the content, but adding some different enemies or types of spells could make it engaging for much longer. I know what it's like to cut a lot to make it in time so I'm looking forward to updates post jam.
Good game. Enjoyed playing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
really liked it, i'm torn on the spell just firing automatically, i think i would have liked it more if you had to do the spells manually to make it a bit more interactive, the sounds and art is really nice, loved the sigil drawing animation, im a sucker for those
Thanks for oyour review! I was torn on the spell casting mechanic too lol I wanted simple inputs but it took away from player choice in the end which was unfortunate. I’m glad you liked the animation! I definitely want to use it in more jams its fun to make hehe.
Very fun game, I really liked that I could control it with just one mouse button. At first I was a bit confused at how the spell works, because you need to be standing still when you first cast it, but then it's just spammed while you're moving (which is totally cool btw).
I wanted to write here how satisfying it was that I was hitting four ghosts at once on level 3, then my mana ran out and I died.
Thanks for your review! I initially made it click only cause I wanted to try adapting for mobile too, but I cut that in the end lol. I probably should have added better instructions for the spell casting logic oops hehe. (Hopefully I’ll come back to fix it later on XD)
It's pretty good. I really like the art style.
Thank you! I’m glad you like the art hehe XD
I enjoyed this! Would have liked to see more animation as you move around, and in general just a more responsive character controller, but it is a fun idea. I was a little confused at first when you say you won't shoot when not moving, but I felt like I could move around because you pause between clicks, so I sort of could move and attack?
Glad you enjoyed it! Apologies, my explanation was a bit unclear but the idea is that the player only starts doing stuff when standing still, and is supposed to stop when moving. There is a bug where the player is able to move and cast spells but it makes the game nicer to play so I left it in lol hehe
