Description
While I did not develop a full story as inspiration for this track, I approached it with the intent to tell one. I imagined what it might sound like to be wandering into a dense forest where, as you continue to take this path, you feel more and more lost and begin to suspect that you're not alone.
I used a lot of string-type patches and samples that have subtle shifts in timbre and pitch to evoke a feeling of unease. The string sections play cyclically to set a sort of pace for events to happen and build over time towards a climax that introduces new moods to the score.
When building the percussion, my goal was to experiment with effects and create a dynamic stereo field so that I could build a rhythm that fills out the space in interesting ways and immerses listeners within the setting.
One of my other goals for the ambient factor in particular was to play with dynamics, timbre, and ambient sounds to create new textures when instruments play together. My hope with this was to create an emergent soundscape where listeners might hear new things each time they listen to the track.
Description of Setup (Optional)
I did a lot with automation to enhance the cyclical feel of the song, and to help certain instruments/samples to fit in with the mix. The only FX bus that I used has a convolution reverb assigned to it to fill out the space a bit.
As for the master chain I used a gain tool since I mixed most of the instruments at a lower level, the UADX 1176LN REV E compressor to try to glue everything together and add some light saturation, the UADX Studer A800 to add a subtle tape effect, and EQ at the end to bring up the low-end and tone down the mids and treble a bit to help make the track a bit less harsh.

Very organic very enigmatic, very spicodelic, love the vibe a little bit treatening, but still beauty and mystic. Great Work
Overall really good! I liked listening to this a lot, i like how you experimented with the sounds and timbres of these instruments to create something really special.
I like this one, how it is varied and evolves, and does cool things with textures and the overtones/timbres that emerged out of the synths you were using.
The percussion also has a nice sense of space to it. I actually think the way the percussion is mixed here is really quite fantastic, as well as the instruments chosen.
The synth maybe gets a little forward and sine heavy and could use a bit of volume modulation/spatializing. It also maybe doesn't quite make me think of the theme, but it's not inappropriate.
Great work! :)
Hey! I did a review of your entry via video. I posted it on the Jam discord but appreciate everyone might not be on there. Here's the video timestamp for your entry: https://youtu.be/1-aLhBdNCKE?t=14064
Great change of mood, started with some msytery and you shifted with more and moretension with some nice variation on the strings.
The atmosphere on this is fantastic. You immediately get the spooky, ominous vibes, and all the sound effects throughout really add to it as it goes on. I especially love that buzzing, almost sounds like an insect around the 52 second mark, and the warbling towards the end with what sounded to me like wood blocks was wonderful.
Love the moodyness this had!
After listening and reading your description, I felt that having another non stringed instrument as contrast to the "forest" of sound that is the string instruments could've helped to amplify the feeling of getting lost in the forest.
What I mean is that all the stringed instruments would represent the dense forest and the lone contrasting instrument the person wandering inside (just a little thematic idea I got while reading your description😅).
Nice one!
Atmospheric mood all the way through the track. Dig it!
