Description
this doesn't follow the picture theme necessarily it's more aligned to 'personal project' in the sense that it's an ongoing personal goal to integrate a percussive drum track into my things which is a gradual struggle for me lately.

I think Fox was on point with some of his feedback.
I'd say play with a metronome, actually. Play to a click for a while, I think the timing is throwing things off a little and making it sound a bit more improvised.
I can hear what you're going for with the timing, but I think this is one of those cases where if you played to a metronome for a while it would bring it in together and make it all sound so much more tight and crisp. Your composition and improv is quite good already (and I know how hard improv is). So, I'd definitely say play with a metronome.
I'd also say that at the micro level you make good composing decisions, but I think you should work on bringing more cohesion at the structural level. It doesn't have to be like some theory nerd thing, but think like you're telling a story.
Definitely unique stuff, great work though.
everybody's totally right i'm just on time constraints splitting it with a day job
i will give it consideration and -lean- in that -direction- i just can't....vouch for fidelity :)
as time permits!

I said it in the last jam, and I'll say it again, I'm getting strong Emerson Lake and Palmer vibes and I absolutely love it. Your chord choices sound like you're channeling Emerson's hands. The harmonic choices don't sound weird to me, but maybe because I'm a big ELP fan?
Love the keyboard work, I don't mind the lack of quantization/perfection. It sounds like it's alive. I really really like the synth sounds, but, I am not a big fan of anything going on with the percussion. The kick especially isn't working for me at all. Maybe studying how Palmer's percussion compliments Emerson's keyboards would be a good starting point for rhythmic inspiration? Mix is lacking on the low end, I don't hear much bass.
The mellow section around 4:30 is a great textural change and I'd like to hear a big progressive changeup in the middle of the song too.
Overall, I'm extremely envious of your piano skills, this was really impressive to listen to. I love the style you bring to these jams and am looking forward to your next work!!
I am kind of dragging myself to percuss to get slowly better (think i muttered about it in the descrip)
The results of that are ho hum for me and probably stay that way until it gradually fades :)
like "The Adventures of Runch Bleak" (CCXXXV) is a techno test run and it's less than optimal
https://soundcloud.com/doug-stoothoff/the-adventures-of-runch-bleak
and yet Xuberance 5 is okay (CCXXVIII)

I -have- done it right it's just kind of hiding in the catalog from the commentors who have only seen the since Jul '24 things since Lone Rabbit's #7 OST
....farther back.
And so like several dozen apart of my non-Itch lineup in the general Spotify/distrokid world, i will try to grind a Techno to see if i can stand it
Or other-drum piece.
Glad you had fun.

All right, since this is unranked, i'm gonna try and be critique so it might seem brutal don't be too offended. I think I know your style pretty much by now and the main thing I see is the execution, the way its played. Correct me if i'm wrong but it seems like a one take being played track witouth any correction after in the DAW especially the rythmic part because I think thats the main thing, its not following the tempo and its a bunch of crazy chords, you probably know your chords but maybe not exactly how they work well together which is why some people might think it sounds sometimes pretty weird. I think you have very interesting ideas that I would not think of but if you want it to be more pleasant to the ear, fixing with some quantization or doing a better take would make everything much more enjoyable, maybe you like it the way it is I don,t know but its my main feedback. Going into the mix itself its pretty decent you have a good arrangement of lows, percs and highs, maybe some mastering to make it punch a bit more can be beneficial.
you know what we have not done yet Fox
is seen me use the 88-key Roland ONLY to record the note values
and whole cloth throw-OUT the entirety of the exported WAV and only pull the standard MIDI so all tones are mix-craft derived
because from there i might have better quantization luck moving wholly in the software realm
and then utilize online synth tones and effects....
an idea for the future!
Much appreciated your feedback.
and in that context i could still supply the original WAV but say its an early draft.,,
quantization is a blessing or a curse because even with 1/32 they break to one side or the other
I don't know how mixcraft works, but in other DAWs you can play with quantize and not be limited to 1/32, you can add a touch of humanization and how much you want to quantize. You have to be critique and look carefully when you do it to obviously not over do it, it's not a select all quantize work. You have to be more precise with it.

One of the most interesting tracks I've heard in a jam. Cool stuff
