Well, the Kenney Jam is now over for us... This game wouldn't have been possible to create in two days without using  NRG ~ https://nrgcore.com/  and its rapid prototyping real-time development environment. The FULL project including the source code and all the assets used for the Jam are now available FREE for download at:

https://nrgcore.com/demo/PP/

Hey, I really love this game and think it's so well made! However unfortunately the submission has been disqualified because textures (and models?) have been used or made that are not part of my pre-made game assets. Sorry!

The animals are made out of "blockDirt", the earings are "statue_ring", the bomb is:  "bomb+cannonBall" the rest are all default assets at 100%... No textures have been used only normal maps and colors remain unchanged (maybe at one or two exceptions). Only the animals and the baddies traits have been hand painted using your color palette (kinda hard to do eyes and mouth with cubes)... This is the only atlas used in the game:

Hey, the decision is based on this screenshot showing the credits and crediting other sources. The challenge was to only use pre-made game assets by me, and thus the challenge rules were not met.

Alright... fair enough I guess... well I think the Jam is over for us :(

We had a blast! Special Tks to you Kenney for the opportunity!

Love the way you guys implemented in such a subtle way the Theme of the Jam having the panda grow when eating bamboo... and it can grow BIG! :)

(1 edit)

I tried to play it for myself but for some reason I cannot move :/

Based on the video, this looks very well-made for a jam game! I like it!

EDIT: So I unplugged my controller, and played it for myself because that was what was causing my movement bug. It's a fun game, and I like the art style a lot! Not to sure how well it fits with the jam theme though.

Do you have a gamepad connected? If you do the keyboard can only be used to select menu options. Disconnect it to play with the keyboard if you have a playstation controller (using the GPU fix version available): Left Stick control movements, Right Stick the View, X to Jump and L/R to zoom in/out.

We should have explained it more in details (probably some text) right at the beginning of the game... seems that wasn't clear enough fore many anyway in a nutshell:

...when the panda eat bamboo it grow, the more it eat the more it grow (stop eating and it shrink over time). A bigger panda make it easier to reach higher ground, beat the baddies allows it to push crates etc... but makes it harder to avoid traps, stay on moving platforms etc...

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO CANNOT RUN THE VERSION ABOVE AN ALTERNATE DOWNLOAD WITH GPU BUG FIX (AND PLAYSTATION CONTROLLER SUPPORT) IS AVAILABLE AT:  https://nrgcore.com/demo/PP/P+P.zip

Very cute game and well polished. But I think the camera is too close  to player and the depth of field effect(or maybe motion blur? I'm not sure)  is too strong. That made me felt a little dizzy sometimes.

You are totally right its too much... We'll fix that right away after the Jam. We were such in a hurry that we didn't had time to tweak all effects...

Wouldn't run.  Game looks very polished for a 2 day jam.  Looks like a lot of fun.  Though I wasn't sure how it fit the theme.

Can you give me more information about the symptoms that you are experiencing as well as the specs of your rig. Concerning the theme well when the panda eat bamboo it grow, the more it eat the more it grow (stop eating and it shrink over time). A bigger panda make it easier to reach higher ground, beat the baddies allows it to push crates etc... but makes it harder to avoid traps, stay on moving platforms etc.. you get the idea ;)

Thank you for saying that it look polished, we made a few tutorials in the past using Kenney assets so we already had a head start check it out:

I can't play it :(

The visuals of the images look really good though.

Can you give me more details about your setup OS, GPU etc... also check for any error on the command line... And from the look of it if its a black screen it might be because of the lack of MSAA 8x of your GPU driver or an unsupported type of render target can't say for sure... Send me over your GPU rendering capabilities.

EDIT: Did the new GPU fix version available above take care of the issue?

Windows Defender said its a virus :/

Developer (4 edits)

The game was built on a clean machine specifically to avoid that problem... Defender is probably complaining because the exe is not codesigned, it is perfectly safe to run it. Check our gameplay video:

You can also create an exception in Defender to be able to run it: Add an exclusion to Windows Security (microsoft.com)

I get that a lot on itch games. I think it's usually safe to ignore it if the file came from itch directly.

For whatever reason the game couldn't launch on my W11 computer :(.

I wanted to judge how the panda jumped, but just by watching the video, the game seems pretty big and well made :o.

The atmosphere is really nice, well done!

Developer (1 edit)

If you launch it manually from the command line is there any error that is reported?

ps: The game was build on Windows 10 Pro Build:19044.1889
