Great submission. Love the art and concept. Controls were a bit fast but I  also suck at jumpy puzzles. At one point had sooo many copies of my old run on screen lol was fun though

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for your thoughts on our game ^_^ Dont worry, Ill try to smoothen out my difficulty curve even more the more platforming projects ill make. Im glad you had fun regardless :)

Woah, this submission is insanely good! The concept is so creative and matches the theme perfectly! The game implements the concept into its gameplay extremely well! The levels felt so well thought out and uses its mechanic to its full potential! The game had a handful of difficult levels, but all of them felt fair. I think the artstyle has a lot of personality to it too! Really love the whole look and feel of the game! The audio was also well produced too (I love how the every sound effect has this reverberation quality to it, nice stuff)! AND LIKE THERE IS A LEVEL EDITOR??? WHAT? THATS CRAZY!!! This game already has a good concept, great art, nicely produced audio, well designed levels, and you also included USER-GENERATED CONTENT??? I'm speechless... this is really amazing!

There are some things I kinda want to make note of (but they are pretty minor quality of life suggestions). First off is the controls, they are fast and fun to move around with! There was a lot of thought put into it (thanks for putting coyote time btw, saves me a lot of stress). Though I feel that sometimes the player felt too fast and hard to control. I especially had difficulty trying to center myself in one tile blocks as I would usually fall off them even through the slightest input (Died many times in level 6, trying to center myself to the block on the far left of the level). I assume player horizontal movement was done by instantly applying a vector force onto your player character depending on what button they pressed (correct me if I'm wrong though, just a pure guess haha). If you want your game to be speedrunner friendly, I think runners value precision (how well they control the character / how often the game does what the player wants it to do) rather than overall speed itself. I'm not saying to change the speed of the game (its really nice), but have you experimented with acceleration / damping / lerping in your game? If you want the game to still be fast, you can just have a quick acceleration and have a max velocity cap maybe (speedrunner games like Super Meat Boy do something similar)?

This may be just a me problem, but I also feel like its hard to distinguish the levers that the ghosts can interact with and the levers that you can interact with in the game. The colors picked for the levers both are light colors that are sort of near the same spectrum of each other. Especially with the small size of the sprites, it'll be hard to distinguish which one is which in smaller screen sizes. Maybe to counter this, you can make the base of the lever have more contrasting colors from each other or add a shader or spectral visual effect thingy on the ghost lever thing (hopefully this makes sense XD).

Those are the only two minor issues I have to this fantastic game. If I saw this game marketed online right now, I wouldn't have believed you if you told me this was a game jam game. This was really great and I had so much fun solving each level! Great job!

Thank you so much for your very detailed review of our game! Im the game designer, artist, and level designer and im happy that the stuff I worked on got you impressed so thank you!

Very cool game and well polished. Controls are perfect, the music is nice. It took me a while to figure out what to do, but I really wanted to go to the next level. You used the theme very well, good job =D

Submitted(+1)

The game is great! The concept of using your past lives to complete levels was really smart.

I loved the music! Great retro vibe. SFX are great too!

Gameplay is well thought out, and the controls are great if not a bit slippery. But with a bit of time you could get the hang of it!

Levels were all really well thought out! I loved them.

Art style was simplistic and got the job done.

The level editor is a great touch! A lot of customisability. However it might be a bit too complex, especially using logic gates and such.

Overall, really loved it!!

Developer(+1)

Hello! Game and Level Designer here. Thank you so much for playing our game and giving your review on it. Im happy that you loved my levels, I spent a good 2-3 hours on each one of them, and that I hope I could make more content for it in the future if this game really is THAT demanded. I also made the art and Im glad that you like it as well, Im rather new to pixel art as I am mostly a game designer than anything else so I needed a way to convey my designs other than programming.

As for the level editor, if you're having difficulty understanding the logic gates there is a manual level provided by the programmer that you could try out and study the gates with ^.^

Again, your support is much appreciated and heres to the future of all our games!

really good game. the controls are a little fast but hey. Minor detail

Developer

Thank you so much for playing our game! ^_^ The character's speed and the level design were balanced out in order to provide a speedrunning experience as well as not to wait on your ghost for too long xD

(+1)

you could always make your ghost 2x as fast as you, giving you the opportunity to have more control with the character. Dont forget to come play and rate my game as well!

Developer

Ohh yea yea! Thank you so much for your feedback ^_^ And sure thing my guy ill rate your game!

The best game I've played for this jam yet. Well done, y'all. I mean, I was terrible at it, lmao. Very difficult, but I'm a bit blown away by how well put together it is. You even implemented a level editor, lol wut? Congrats. :)

It took me a while to understand what was going on with the switches and buttons. Why some would flip and others wouldn't, and level 3 (I believe. First level that introduced the switches and buttons) was a massive difficulty ramp. I still don't know how to complete it. Thankfully there's the option to skip levels. :)

Developer

Thank you for playing my game Game Endeavor. I actually joined this game jam not only out of boredom, but because you mentioned you were gonna join this game jam from a post in YouTube. Also thank you so much for the Godot Engine tutorials, the state controller really helped me with my game.

Submitted

Aww, that's nice to hear. I'm glad the state machine was useful! Thank you for watching the videos.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing our game! (Level /Game Designer here) The first 3 levels were designed to be Tutorial levels using the "show dont tell technique". Players in level 3 were given a wide open space to experiment and discover the mechanics which govern the entire game, which I theorized would lead to some amazing revelations :D

Submitted(+1)

I certainly got the wide open feel and the experimenting bit, so good job on that. I think it may have just been too many concepts at once. I managed to figure out how the lever and button works, but never managed to figure out the gap.

*Five minutes later*

Right, so seems like you can stand on your former selfs (which I tried before and thought I fell through it). That's a lot to figure out for the very first puzzle. As an alternative, I think it'd be nice to have a section where it teaches the "you can stand on yourself" mechanic. Like a long shallow spike pit at the start of the level, where there doesn't seem like any other alternatives. After failing my first attempt at standing on myself (I believe I even tried it twice), I started wondering if maybe I needed to make a platform appear or just something else that I was missing.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback! I suppose in hindsight such a level should be needed (I suppose it shouldve been level 2 haha!)  I intended for all the interactable concepts to be all in one place because I wanted the "real game" to start already so that the player may see whats in store for future levels.

If ever a remaster is in store, this WILL be in it to make a smoother transition into the mechanics. But for a jam like this one its all about that smack in your face content so Im still proud of level 3 as the introduction.

Again, Thank you so much for your constructive cirticism! This will surely improve my path to becoming a professional game designer :)

Submitted(+1)

Brilliant idea! literally shocked my mind when I found that you can use the ghost to help yourself!
So difficult lol but so much fun !!!

10/10
Wanna buy the full game if there will be one in the future, hard to believe its finished in 7 days.

Developer(+2)

Thank you! I couldn't believe I made something like this myself because, I've actually never made a level editor before this jam. I do however contemplate remastering this game into a different one, maybe it'll happen. But yeah I'm really happy you've enjoyed the game so far! Thank you for playing and giving it a rating.

maybe when quarantine is over mate

Developer(+1)

Also thank you so much! I myself am quite fond of your entry as well! As the game and level designer it means alot to see people seem to enjoy the difficulty curve as well as be surprised by the solutions that pop up on each level, especiallty level 3 which I assume was what made you shocked in your comments. ^_^

Submitted(+1)

Yea that's where the story begins

Submitted(+2)

Excellent Game! The difficulty is rock solid and the gameplay is pretty nice! The level editor seems pretty well done too, congrats!

Developer

Im happy that you find the difficulty curve solid. It means a alot as the game and level designer ^_^

Submitted(+2)

Amazing and fun game. It's also pretty challenging I would say, but I like it alot!

And btw it matches the theme perfectly.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and leaving a review! Im happy that you found it challenging and fun ^_^ I spent a good 2-3 hours making some of the more difficult levels but I hope the curve wasn't too steep for you.

Submitted(+2)

Super fun and cool but I died so much ;-; 10/10

Developer

I'm sorry about your experience : <. Thanks for the review and I hope you had fun! : D

Developer (2 edits)

Pardon the difficulty, I dont get to level design that often haha xD. Besides dying is a main mechanic here, im sure every attempt you did was great ^_^ and thank you so much for playing and reviewing our game!

Submitted(+2)

This game is great. reminded me of Braid. Very nice mechanics. The music is also nice. I liked the squishy jump animation too. I managed to pass half the levels and also made a simple level.

Really well done. I enjoyed the gameplay.

Developer

Braid is actually one of my inspirations, and also Chronotron! Thank you for being the first to share a level by the way : )

Submitted(+2)

A very interesting game! I really like how this includes a level editor, and especially that you can interact with all the pre-built levels within the editor!

Developer

I actually created a level editor for my level designer, and also for players to create, share and have fun! The option to edit existing levels was actually implemented on the last hour as well. Thank you for playing my game and rating it : D
