How does rating work?

Eey guys, since this is my first itch jam I was wondering: Can anyone please explain to me how the rating system works? Couldn't seem to find the instructions ๐Ÿ™ˆ Thank you very much in advance!

You just rate each of the three criteria from 1 to 5 stars with ranking being an average of your scores totalled. It gets a little wonky if you don't get five actual ratings as (I think) the system plugs in an 'average' vote to get you 5.

Thank you! Seems simple enough :) I will give it a shot!

it's my first jam so i had this question too. not quite sure how to articulate this better than to say it's like i need permission to give three or four stars. otherwise it'll be "5-stars, but here's where writing/usability/fun fell just short." fell short of what? is 5 stars perfect or average?

3 = average

5= wow

1= i dislike you

i hope i didn't earn any 1 stars, but if i did then i hope it at least comes with a full color emoji. :) ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ (:

Yeah. I see what you mean. It leaves out a lot of nuance in the rating. I understand that they had to come up with a way to keep it manageable but between 3-5 stars there is not much wiggle room ๐Ÿ˜œ

I did some googling. I couldn't find any information more fresh than 10 months, so unless they changed something within last year, here's how it works:

You want to be at or above median, otherwise your score gets adjusted using the following formula:

sqrt(number of scores/median number of scores)

Median is not average, keep that in mind.

So let's say you only got 8 ratings, and median entry was rated 10 times. Your score would be adjusted using a factor of 0.89 also known as square root of 0.8. meaning that even if every score was perfect 5/5, your final adjusted score is now 4.45

This is meant to make sure that unpopular entry with one or two votes does not win over an entry with 100 votes, that managed to maintain it's high score. Which is fair to be honest.

If your score is at median or above it doesn't get adjusted anymore.

If you enjoyed reading that nerd stuff, I'm sure you would enjoy reading The Offworlder. It's an adventure which allows you to bring sci-fi elements into your fantasy world. SHAMELESS PLUG!
