Ask for help here. We got you :D

question. can we put the entrys on different websites? (if so ill make it on scratch)

Jam Host (1 edit)

The games must be able to upload them to itch.io via our jam page.

no scratch doest use files i could just share the link

i mean like i could copy and paste

Scratch won’t be something we can help grow into game development, There are a lot of tools to be found, Scratch being more of a tool than a game engine. Just to say this jam is geared to push your development to more possibilities. Sorry if it’s a deal breaker, I hear great things about Godot and Lua, Unity was a nice step for me had a lot of tutorials and help.

im a kid so thats all i can use

Jam Host

Godot is a great starting off engine that is similar :D If the game can not be played on itch than the community would have a hard time finding it. We have a wide range of ages and skills.

The community is a welcoming one, for starting out kids too. Some people still haven’t picked something to use. If you understand Scratch then you are well on your way to learn something more, we will be here to help you expand your new skills. If you want to, no pressure just a helping hand to you. Let me know what you think of this.

ok ive been looking for another coding website

actually it seems a bit hard to learn in 2 days

Jam Host

Maybe this will help: https://itch.io/jam/level-up-circle-beginner-jam-1/topic/1371743/ressources-for-beginners-how-to-start

uh you can make it into a file by making a game, file, save to computer, then upload it to itch.io

i'm SUPER new to making games, and i think this would be fun, but i only know how to use Gdevelop right now, im not sure if thats a valid engine?

I think so, Gdevelop can export to web and windows and that's what they want, they prefer it to be played in itch.io's web but if that doesn't work then you have to export to windows.

Jam Host(+1)

Yes I believe that should work, as long as it can be played via web build and/or windows, and fallows the rest of the rules to the jam,

Let’s JAM!

"NO SELF PROMOTION - You may not post any links when commenting." It only says commenting, does that mean no links at all or just in the comments?

Jam Host

We have a place for you to promote your work in our discord channel #Progress-Report. and you can gain feedback in the proper channels too.

So I can't put any links in the game itself? Only the discord?

Jam Host(+1)

What links are you referring? The rule is talking about leaving your game link in other peoples comments. The games that get submitted will all be in one place on itch. When you leave a comment on a game your game will be apart of it anyways.

(+1)

Don't worry, nevermind.

Like I'm working with a another person to do the coding while I do the art, the coder needs to give credit to my itch account. That's not promoting, but I just want to make sure that that's okay.

Can we use pre write codes ?

Jam Host

MAKE IT YOURSELF - You must make all assets and code yourself or by your team within the time frame of this jam. Any templates and/or pre-built games will not count in the originality department. This jam is intended to practice your critical thinking, creative and coding skills, not copy and paste. Any of these will apply to the Originality category.

ok i will make my own code Thanks !

Can we choose if the game is 2d or 3d as it was not specified in the rules

Jam Host (1 edit) (+1)

It is not limited to either, I believe it says you can even make a text based game (not for the faint of heart). Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Submitted(+1)

sorry for the complete beginner question - how do you upload a game to itch.io?

Jam Host (2 edits)

I hope this page better answers your question:

Thank you!

Excuse me and if I don't know how to do something, I can look it up online
Jam Host

Totally its all about learning, even the best coders don’t know every line. Just don’t copy and past. You gain so much more skills even when you get stuck, you know where you have been already. good luck!

im gonna leave it looks too complicated

Jam Host

What looks too complicated? Have you asked in our discord, that has more eyes to help you if you get stuck or want an opinion on something, this jam is all about learning a new skill and applying it to game development with a nice little more than a week to make something. You are always welcome to join any of our jams! <3

godot does

Can I get help? I am a very lonely programmer and am really good with programming and kinda bad when it comes to developing full games. I never know where to start. I have a full idea but don't know how to carry it out

Jam Host

We have a place in our discord for those looking for a team. We have a lot of different minds, and creative people to help you grow. It is a world with a lot of programmers (myself included) but that is not to say no one is looking. Everyone has a different take on the same thing, same thing for coders.

I hope you are able to find a team or collab with someone, you can also use the Team Find area in our itch page, https://itch.io/jam/level-up-circle-beginner-jam-1/topic/1361423/team-find-here or head into our discord and find someone cool to work with! https://discord.gg/hUx3PBXp4Y

Thank you I will check out the team find first because discord makes me a bit akward.

Does anyone use Ink from inklestudios? First time trying it and I can't get some very basic stuff going...

Jam Host

From what I understand, its an add on to a game engine. tbh I find this a little confusing so don’t feel bad, I know more in Unity and C# which is a fun language to learn, also Unity has a great community to learn tutorials and they have fallow along online classes occasionally. I know it didn’t answer your question, if you need more help I would ask in the discord :D We have a lot of smart minds.

Question: Does the game sound effect and other musics also has to be made or can be used from free assets

Jam Host(+1)

Music and Fonts can be used as long as its credited to what you use and with the permission of the music. Yes this is fine. :D Happy Jammin’!

Stay Jolly:D

Thanks that's helps a lot in making the progress!XD!
