Some video commentary below:

Yeah the enemy bullets suck ngl, it's not fun to dodge and you can barely see them, it needs Soo much more work.  if i could do onboarding i would have liked to do more shield stuff and iterate how you get a high score and just slowly introduce the player on how to play until you can master it. Thanks for the commentary and play through

Fun game and I enjoyed playing it. I like games like this. One small thing though - I feel like it's a bit too overcomplicated with the fact that you always end up with many ships of different colours on the screen with no way to quickly switch the bullets to that colour.

Developer

Thank you, and yeah I can see that being overwhelming

Very atmospheric/immersive vibe for a simple shmup, which I quite enjoyed. SFX really gave a big positive impact in my opinion. The progression could be streamlined a bit so it doesn't get overwhelming at the beginning. Also probably make the bullet color swapping in the control of the player (just like weapon swap in most games). Plus maybe make enemy bullets more prominent as I didn't even know what hit me lol. But man, this is interesting and solid game all in all. Keep it up!

Developer

Thank you, that's nice. Yeah not sure what could help and I've thought about it, the issue is that I want the player to feel a bit of powerlessness through out the game, I feel like if you give the player the option to change colors, it makes it much easier to navigate through the levels. Yeah sadly the enemy bullets are the worst part of the game :/ yeah thank you!

I see, the current color swap could still work though. They just need to have some distance to the other color orbs when they spawn.
In my experience with the game, they appear on top of each other so it was hard for me to get to the color I want to be in.
As for the bullets, most shmups make use of white dots with colored thick outlines (like hot bright plasma orbs) maybe that can help. 😄

Developer

Yeah I actually tested the color drops and I first had them drop in parellel but sometimes they would fall with an enemy bullet and be useless, then I added the wiggle and you had less control of picking your color and then I drop them vertical and i had a bit more of a chance to control the color, yeah i would have to spend more time with the enemy bullets.

art and music is A-game! only feedback is to bring down the mouse senstivity a bit coz before you get a hang of your craft the enemies bullet hit you.

Developer

Yeah I can see that, could be where I need to lower the enemies in the beginning so you have time to get used to it.

Why enemies bullets other color hits my ship, but my bullets don't? It's unlogical...

Developer

Yeah I don't think adding that would help the game. It's just as unlogical as the player getting hurt from touching enemies in a lot of other games. I do think the enemy bullets need a lot of work tho, they are not satisfying enough to avoid making for stale gameplay

I like the unique fact the player is locked to mouse position! There is also a lot going on which is some nice chaos, maybe more user feedback for when the player's bullets hit enemies, creating more of a damage effect.

Developer

Yeah there is a lot going on, the enemy bullet size really doesn't do it justice or the enemy bullet speed. Yeah I think the bullet hitting is not communicated too well.

Nice 90s music

I really liked the idea behind the game and with this music, I felt like Solonius Prime - final protector of the universe.

Developer

Thank you, yeah the idea with the music if you play for 30 seconds is to get into the flow, the sfx are poor for that tho, but i still like the overall sound, it makes you feel some type of way haha
