Cute story! I included it in my LOWREZJAM compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
Hey Jupiter! Thanks for the feedback and for including the game on your video! I've subscribed to your channel. Cheers!
This is really cute! The larger sprites/zoomed in perspective combined with the small viewport - sometimes felt like 3x3 tiles! - make the whole game feel cozy. The nursery-rhyme music was a nice touch too, and the art made me feel nostalgic for old pokemon games or the like. Good job!
Hey, thanks for the feedback! Sorry I didn't get a chance to rate/comment on your submission before the end of the jam - looks like you've done really well! Yeah, was aiming at those things and quite happy with how my game turned out, though a lot of improvement can be made in the future! Cheers!
Nice graphics! The music works well but the loop could be a bit longer. Enjoyed exploring your little world.
Thanks! Agreed on the loop! Glad you enjoyed exploring it!
For some reason keyboard controls wouldn't work for me here (Linux + Chrome), but I was able to complete it with the touch controls. Very good all round, though maybe the music starts to grate quite soon, being such a short loop! I love the map, the general design and how big it felt because of the low rez, and all the potential hiding places. The sign posts are a great touch. The only place I didn't go, looking at your map, was the orchard(?) next to grannie's house, did I miss anything here? :P
Thanks for the comments and feedback, glad you enjoyed it! Odd about the controls, to be fair I only tested on chrome/Windows so need to look into that but likely to be a phaser thing as I just used out of the box controls... Yeah, the music definitely needs more variety! Nothing of note in the orchard - I’d ran out of time and motivation by that point! Think I’ll definitely be doing an update, maybe extend the screen size or do a HD remake so will look into that and the other bits then! Cheers!
Hey Jack, hope you don't mind - can you let me what Linux OS/version and chrome version you were using - I've tested with Solus and Chrome (not Chromium) and is working for me. Would be useful to track down the issue for an update, though am considering using Unity for compatibility.
Thanks!
Hey, it's Linux Mint + latest Chrome. But I thought I'd try again and this time the keyboard worked. Considering last time I did refresh the page several times to no avail, this is weird. I can't even find a way to break it now, I thought it might be the touch implementation; it uses overlaying divs, maybe that was restricting focus somehow... But, I don't know!
Thanks Jack! Very odd! Yeah, it’s not an ideal situation but makes it easier to play square games on oblong devices! That’s probably something to do with it as phaser is pretty solid. I’ll aim for native phaser touchscreen controls for the update. Thanks again for taking the time to check this out for me!
very nice game, the graphism and the music are beautiful, and the story is great. Good job.
Thanks!
I love the consistency of this game. Everything fits the limits of 64pixels and manage get me a smile while playing! I loved it.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed playing!
Nice graphics and music!
I'm quite impressed at all the story you managed to pack in a 64x64 pixels format! :-D
Thank you! It's tough getting all those words into a small space! I was committed to a "proper" version of the fairy tale so had to use the words written by Perrault as much as possible - fortunately it's short!
The aesthetics of the game are adorable end to end. Music is light hearted and pairs with the art style and the general premise of the "fairytale" story. It may be better for dialog to trigger without the need to click on things (may just have it happen when you walk up to them).
I also appreciate that you added mouse based controls/touch controls.
Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking about doing that - the dialogue to trigger without clicking and I may well do so in an update, or maybe have it as an in game option. It would suit the game better but some of my motivation here was to introduce kids to classic rpg mechanics and controls, and clicking on stuff is a classic interaction. I think at least an exclamation mark should appear over Red's head when near an interaction. Cheers!
Loved this! Very cute art style. That damn song is stuck in my head now though :D The entire experience was very ... mediogre... ;) A fun take on the story! A little bit faster would be nice but, other people have said that already so I don't need to go into it, and it's not a major complaint. Good job!
Haha! Thanks! Glad the song worked its way into your head! Wasn't sure if it would fit but think it turned out ok! Cheers!
Loved the character design and calming vibe of this! Only suggestion would be perhaps to have a camera that follows your character through the scenes, rather than discrete sections of the map - might help it feel a little smoother / continuous while exploring. Great work!
Cheers! I was thinking of that and good to get feedback on it. I wanted to keep it as a flip-screen to see how it would work out. I think it's nice to contain everything in set screens but as you say doesn't feel too smooth. Thanks!
The graphics are fantastic! They're very clean and it's easy to tell what everything is, which isn't an easy task with the resolution limitation. You've got a fun little game here, great job! :)
Thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it!
Oh nice some Beethoven in there .
Liked the sprite style and the usage of the space, makes the world feel bigger. The only "complaint" would be the speed but only because it's about delivering message, I'd guess it was intended :)
A clean entry imo, Nicely done :)
Hey! Thanks! Yeah, was aiming at making things feel like a proper world without looking too constrained, my other games have used 8x8 sprites which are a bit difficult to make out sometimes. Others have mentioned the speed and I think it could be faster. It was kinda intended but still could be improved! Cheers!
This was very cute and simple! The classic songs were a nice touch!
I do wish she moved a little faster, it felt a bit slow getting around but overall nice job!
Hey! Thanks for the feedback! I agree - there are quite a few improvements to make - the speed does feel pretty slow, particularly when backtracking which also happens a bit too much for my liking. One for the update! Cheers!
