Reminds me of battle city for the nes. Amazing that it was done with JavaScript and no game engines.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Battle City was indeed an inspiration for this game.

I prefer vanilla JavaScript over frameworks or engines because I like to do things with coding and math, while I dislike software bloat and black box-like lack of control.

This brought back many nostagic memories from atari days. Super polished :-)

Thank you! :)

This is surprisingly addictive! I love the little 'Yay!' at the top when you beat a level. I was totally saying it out loud after I beat every level. It's seems so simple, but there are so many levels. The art is also great! It's very simplified, but super easy to understand. Great job!

Thank you for playing, I am glad you enjoyed it! :)

It is a good idea.

Fun tank game with some fun levels, I think lvl 14 was my favourite.  I also liked how the AI was tricky enough to not to just wander into a line of bullets and drive the other way to avoid.   Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The AI has a really simple algorithm: Drive in a random direction for a random amount of time (and repeat indefinitely).

Nice, it's simpler than I thought but did the job great.  When I played against it, it felt like it was anticipating what I was going to do lol

Great difficulty curve and great sound/visual effect!

I very much enjoyed this one, made it all the way to level 18, I liked the 8-bit/NES art style and how the difficulty slowly ramped up with time. I do wish there was a bit more audio/music, though what was there worked very well. Overall a fun game and great job on putting it together!

Thank you for playing, nice to hear you enjoyed it. :)

NES games, in particular (perhaps obviously) Battle City, were indeed my inspiration for this one.

The sound was rushed few minutes before the deadline (including frantically composing the melodies), which is why is there not much of it. And there is any sound at all because I found some of my old code related to audio laying on my computer, there is no way I would manage to code it from scratch in the little time I had left.

There is also supposed to be an intro melody when starting the game, but it will only play on much older (I think 2-3+ years old) versions of browsers because the newer ones will prevent it and issue a warning "An AudioContext was prevented from starting automatically. It must be created or resumed after a user gesture on the page.", which is something I did not have time to notice, let alone find a workaround (which would be to wait for any user input (e.g. click or keypress) before playing it). The intro melody still plays (on newer browsers) when the title screen re-appears after losing the game.

This happened because I used only an old browser version to develop the game (so old that half of the entries submitted here will not work on it)
because I wanted a great backwards compatibility, but I never thought that the forward compatibility might also be an issue with browsers. Now I am aware that it can, which is a valuable lesson I have learned.

Really fun game, I made it to level 17. My only issue is the drops are a bit confusing, sometimes I can't pick them up and I can't tell if the different colored ones are having different effects or if they are just visually different.

Developer

Thank you for playing it, I am glad it is fun to play. :)

Drops do the following (copying a part of my comment on the game page):

White/Red: Heals 1HP up to 5HP.
White/Blue: Heals 1HP up to 9HP.
Red/Yellow : Weapon power-up (double damage and drop chance).

If picking up a drop would do nothing, then it is not picked up, similar to how in many games drops for maxed-out ammo and health are ignored.

Also, you can start from any level by pressing keys for up/down or left/right. Upon losing, it starts with the last level played. There is a total of 25 different levels (which then just loop indefinitely like in e.g. many NES games).

I did not have time to write a proper description of the game because of the jam submission deadline (I had less than 2 minutes left). Also, this is my first game jam and I did it rather hastily and I am still not completely sure how does all of that work (e.g. I am not sure if it is okay to edit the description after the deadline, so I will just leave it brief as-is, and add additional info in comments).

Oh ok, I had missed your comment on the game page and just hadn't understood why the white/red ones weren't getting picked up but now i get it
