Themes
They helped me to shape my game idea. Made the jam and finding an idea process more interesting.

Tools
I used editing software like audacity and Pixelorama for sound and image editing and used Defold Engine for creating the game. The engine has bare-bones functionality which is its biggest limitation.

Lessons
Yes, how the build process is done in my engine.

This is such a cool idea! It’s a shame it’s not in 64x64 pixel resolution, but I’ll admit I do love these kinds of games. :)

Developer

Thanks so much? Is it not 64x64? Are you sure, what made you think that?

Sure! Hopefully this screenshot helps:

The texture of the background is 64x64, and the character + particle effects are made up of hundreds more pixels than the background. If the game was 64x64 pixels then you wouldn’t be able to see any detail smaller than the pixels of the background.

Developer

Welp, that's an accurate aspect. Unfortunately, the game engine I used does not have pixel perfect rasterization to my knowledge. That's why it uses extra pixels to smooth things out. The game was originally designed in 64x64 and can be shrunk down to that size without any problem. If I could, I would add pixel clipping but I do not think it is possible.

cool game! nice to see how you fit the game inside of 64x64 -- made it unique and enjoyable

Excellent idea and soundtrack with various tunes!

One friendly pointer: despite noting yourself there's no fancy processing around the 64x64 limit, your UI, effects and animations break that rule. Make sure that nothing is ever rendered over a "partial" pixel in order to get maximum points on authenticity!

Nice Bomberman vibes! It is great to see someone using Defold as well; it is a great engine. I hope it will get more popular with time!

awww i love mike! i found this game really fun tho at times soooo frustrating (in a good way)! i really like the use of 64x64 to add challenges with the hidden exits of paths--it makes it really puzzly and enjoyable
