Themes
I chose not to use any of the optional themes, instead I attempted to do a de-make of one of my favorite game series.

Tools
Unity, Clip Studio and Blender for all visual assets. No time to make moosic :(

Lessons
The 64x64 space is great to worry less about fidelity, and more about the "whole" of the game. Never done this much sprite work before!

very cool game! I'm surprised how good it looks as a 3d game in 64x64

Thanks for playing!

I'm not gonna lie, the first time i played this, i had no clue what was going on, but I came back again to it and had a much better time, really enjoyed everything and how you fit such nice graphics in such a small resolution. Great job!

Nice dungeon crawler with beautiful graphics. I like the 3D rendering and accompanied color mixing in this one. Especially the 3D rendering part, which is hard to get right with low resolution. Good job! :)

Very cool game! I found the mechanics well telegraphed, and I picked up what to do after a couple of battles. The presentation of the map is great, and for the timeframe of the jam this is a really well laid out game - Really nice sprite work too, it all felt wrapped up into a cohesive style and theme.

Had a lot of fun with this and the "find the weakspot" battle system is cool - could imagine how it could be extended all sorts of ways in a larger game. Lovely graphics, really dug the atmosphere - I was sad to see it end since I was pretty into it (but I get it - I overscoped too, ahah). Excellent submission!

Thanks for playing! I do intend to clean it up and release a completed version soon :)

Combat is kinda random but otherwise this is an amazing game with a really cool art style. Really curious in how you archieved this kinda look. Is it perhaps even a 3d game? Anyway the mechanics are all nice and I like the party and monster design.

Developer(+1)

Yep, the world is 3d and uses 2d billboarding sprites! The camera outputs to a 64x64 texture to downscale it, and that image is shown on the UI together with the party/ monsters /everything else. Thanks for the kind review :)

I find that you have to hang on a bit to play and that maybe you should help the player a bit to get started...after that it's not at all my kind of game so it's possible that I'm missing the references...it made me think of this DrinkBox game "severed"... but in any case it's very successful as soon as you start to understand how it works you want to explore the labyrinth and fight the monsters etc... the cottony atmosphere of the game is nice and made me have a good time

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I agree the game requires the player to already be familiar with dungeon crawlers, and the combat system needs more explanation. Glad you kept going and enjoyed looking around!!

Very cool entry. The combat is quite interesting take on battle ship, which I haven’t seen before.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, battleship is exactly what I had in mind!

I definitely wasn't expecting a 3d game but this one works really well, and the environment feels really magical.

Thanks for playing!

Way cool! I really like the combat mechanics, haven’t seen it done like this before.

Developer

Thanks for playing! The combat was fun to make and largely a product of the 64*64 limitation, sometimes less is more :)

Really impressive stuff in this entry. I like the battle system & exploration aspects here. There are some balancing issues with the combat, but overall, it feels better more engaging than most dungeon crawlers. One of the biggest issues I encountered was the level up screen wouldn't go away sometimes. This ended up soft locking me in the area with about 6 level up fruits. I assume this was near the end since some credits popped up.

Developer

Thanks for playing and reporting the soft lock! Luckily you did indeed make it to the end :)

This is just beautiful!

Thank you!!

Just played Tallowbranch! I love Dungeon crawlers so this was the game for me! The gameplay loop was well done and kept me pretty interested however in some battles I felt like there was no way of winning them because scaling felt off which sucks cause combat was fun! Awesome job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! You're right, the combat is pretty tough. I recommend getting at least one extra point in the accuracy upgrade, and save your magic attacks for enemies in the top right :)
