Played this earlier in the jam and forgot to leave a comment! Just wanted to say I loved presentation and the sound. It added such an authentic feeling to the experience and brought back a lot of memories of messing around with those older handheld devices. Great work!
Cool game, though I suck at it. It really has that retro handheld feeling and I love how the sounds actually sound like they're coming from the cheap speaker.
The presentation is great, but definitely against the rules as they're part of the game. You are aware of it as you provide a second version in a link further below. So while I do think it looks pretty awesome, it shouldn't be there :/
Thanks! I understand it should be fine as long as the game can be played completely without the border, so I hope it's fine :)
The presentation is so cool! The game itself is enjoyable as well, the precision required in movement and jumping feels good and the parry timing is not to hard. The sfx and music are really evocative of that kind of low bit depth retro kinda thing and the stingers like when you spawn or die are a nice juicy bit of audio design that fits the theme really well. I tried out the post jam version as well, and the effect of having the buttons actually click was super cool.
Super cool entry, well done!
Thank you!
Presentation is absolutely outstanding. The handheld is just such a great touch. The game is good, challenging at first but very enjoyable.
Thank you!
The handheld wrapper thingy, omg, a stroke of genius! And you’ve got the game’s sound effects all tinny and bandpassed with button-clicking sounds mixed in, really fleshes out the illusion, I love it.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
The presentation of this game is amazing. The little details such as the scratches and dust on the screen do a lot to sell the illusion that you're playing on one of those single-game retro handhelds, especially the sounds of the controls clicking, which are incredibly satisfying. As for the gameplay, it's difficult but fun! It took me a while to figure out how it worked and I was only able to get to level 2, but nonetheless it's good stuff.
Thank you! I know it's a bit on the difficult side but I can't help it :D
