How does your game fit the Magical Girl genre?
Our main character is a highschool girl who has magical powers. She summons familiars based on the idea and shape of Oni (japanese folkore monsters) of which she utilizes to fight evil. She has the design of a slugger (baseball player) and uses a bat to channel her Powers through it. She is unconventional, for she is loud, brash, and stand off-ish, but has a clear sense of justice. As she learns to control her Powers, she will also learn about herself.

Which theme(s) do you pick?
Grievous Lady and Freedom Dive

How does your game fit those theme(s)?
Our main antagonist, Kaguya, is a "lady" that inflicts pain and destruction, albeit unintentionally. Also the main character, Akira, frees this enemy and the city by fighting her.

Were the assets for your game made during the jam? Elaborate as you see fit.

The character art is very impressive. The voice acting is the icing on the cake. However the game control has a tough learning curve. But overall i would say it's an excellent work

Excellent work on this one! I found some polish issues - mostly with regards to cutscenes (voices continuing even after the dialogue, needing to wait a bit for enemies to spawn in afterwards), but the challenges were fun to overcome, the voice acting incredible, and the art was fantastic. Incredibly well done!

I like the game art and the setting! It would be nice if there is a story mode.

First things first... incredible aesthetics and presentation. The visual design and audio are all top notch. The voice acting is excellent and really adds to the game. Gameplay-wise, there's a good variety of abilities to use that keep it entertaining to play.

That said, the actual control and game-feel is a little off right now. The platforming itself is solid, if a little stiff. Attacks don't feel as satisfying as I'd like, and it's a little tough to get into position to deliver them. The end boss was really hard, and it didn't feel terribly fair. I'd say that each of the boss attacks need slightly more "tell" time to help the player get out of the way. The projectile attack was fine, but the biggest offender in my opinion were the random strikes that could hit you anywhere. If i wasn't already running and jumping non-stop, there was almost no dodging those.

I hope you'll keep working on this project, despite my gameplay issues, I did see it all the way through, and beat the boss after many attempts XD.  I think you've got something really special here, and with some refinement  will take it to the next level!

Thank you for the feedback! It is much appreciated and will be taken into account.  As the dev of the game, I understand your frustrations with the combat and the boss, and I take accountability on that front. I spent a lot of time on the boss, and surprisingly it was much more unforgiving if you could believe it, I do recognize how the lack of telegraphed attacks is frustrating. The combat for sure could feel better, I think my biggest problem was that I got way too used to combat myself while testing and was already used to how it felt, and not have enough unique playtesting. An important lesson for sure. Sorry bit of retrospection for myself! I appreciate the kind words and feedback!!

I know the exact feeling... I'm always the only play-tester on my projects so I get waaaay too used to the controls and gameplay. It's honestly a really solid game even as-is, so with a little updating and tweaking it should really come together!

First off, I always appreciate a game that allows full key binding including the number-pad keys (which I always use for these types of games)

However with that said, I did find the game control a bit stiff and unresponsive. Often times it felt like my inputs were being eaten or delayed, it got to the point where I felt I was fighting the controls more than the enemies and hazards.

As a small suggestion, make the attack a bit faster, and/or allow you to move forwards a little during the animation. With how much it locks you in place it feels bad to be just out of reach of the enemy you are attacking.

Now with the bad out of the way. The art and audio is really good. And full voice acting is impressive. And despite my complaints, the core gameplay concepts were really well thought out with the kill enemies to charge special uses and the jump resetting on kill.

Overall with a little more polish on the gameplay and optimisation front the game has a lot of potential and could make for a really fun game, so good job on the submission.

Just to add, the downloadable version had the godot loading screen stuck in place, I could hear the music and sound effects but not actually see the game screen. This forced me to play via browser where the performance was a bit scuffed at times (frequent micro stutters), this may have amplified the unresponsiveness of the controls; so take my prior views on control with a grain of salt. For refence this same issue has happened once before with another godot game from a different jam. I don't know if this is an issue with my system of something on your end, however I have played several other godot games just fine.

These kind of reviews are what make a game better! I am deeply grateful that you took time to review our game and write out a thoughtful response, and by the time the continue-it game jam comes along, we will take your input and use it to make it better.

This is incredible, I'd  love to see more of it in the future even outside of this jam. The visual aesthetic is so strong and I like the gameplay a lot.
