Very goofy game with funny plot. Why am I a Devil King though :/

The best aspect of this game is perhaps the magical girl design.

The game itself is not very polished and there are some bugs but I certainly had fun XP

Developer (1 edit)

hahah sorry about that... the true is somehow it fit the role perfectly. Someone that want to have all magic girls by himself, someone that make people work to death and a person that my fellows jammers recognize and find it funny?. Really sorry if you don't like it, i made it in the best intention possible, sorry if it sound disrespectful.

also thank you for playing OH MIGHTY DAI MAOU SAMA. BANZAI!!!

wwwwwww

No worries. I understand your intentions, though indeed I would rather be compared w/ sth else XP

Anyway thank you very much for participating!

Finally getting back to playing and rating games... sorry everyone!

There's a lot I like about this one! The art is excellent throughout, the audio all works well, and the silly story is fun. I like the concept of the magical girl being a machine gun toting Oni.

The gameplay works, but could use a little more tweaking. I think someone else mentioned it already, but the transformation, while cool, was under-powered feeling, and actually made fights against the thugs very hard, as the barrel of the weapon would stick out past them if they were close by. It did come in hand on the end boss though, for bypassing her shields. Not sure if that was intentional. I also found by spamming the attack I could defeat enemies way before they appeared on screen. for better or worse.

Despite some rough areas in the gameplay, I did enjoy this! Nice work!

yay thanks for playing shibey sempai.... <3  ... hearing compliment from you make me quite happy .... and somehow embarrassed, ye kinda sorry ... for you know ... a very rushed game and crappy game.

the bypass on the boss was intentional but... well most people cant figure out how defeat the boss so able to cheese it is more fun than trying figure out... so i totally leave as it is ... not because im lazy not at all lol.

Hey, jams are all about rushing and seeing what you can get done in a tight deadlines! And considering that, I wouldn't call this crappy at all. Commercial games (indie or corporate) take years to polish and perfect. For such a tight deadline, this came out very well, especially in the art department.  Take pride in that! :)

Very fun! Loved the art, and the irreverent story. The text skipping should have been faster. Gameplay felt very smooth and was fun, but could use some rebalancing. The optimal strategy was to crouch walk and keep firing, and the transformation doesn't let you shoot while walking so it was ironically the less powerful choice. It also wasn't clear how to beat the boss at the end, so I had to cheese it by going point blank and shooting her by sticking my gun through the barrier. If you decided to expand this I'd like to see interesting upgrades, mainly different weapon choices to use on more varied enemies. Great work!

Developer

thanks for playing and the compliment , transfomation suppose be able walk and shoot ... idk if it s a bug you cant shoot while crouch transformed though.... ye the boss was kinda rushed, actually there was a fast skip button implemented but i cut it out beacuse it was causing issues. ye again on the upgrades and enemies variety all lack of time ... the stuff that i cut it was another type of enemy... and also another way to enemies able to spawn from behind... more weapons was not something i was thinking in implement ,but a option on shoot up and down and diagonally i will keep that in mind if i continue the project.

the game was expected to be a fun experience... if somehow for even a brief moment find it fun this make me very happy.

fun game, beat by crouch down + right + fire

I loved the character's art & animations!

The only things i felt were off were the grammar and how slow the text skipping was >_>

But other than that it was nice, the only way i managed to beat the boss was spamming the shoot button faster than my health managed to deplete when i touched her, since i couldnt find a way to deal with the barriers :p

I just finished playing through this. It was very rough, but I had a lot of fun with it! I noticed that this is marked as a prototype on the game page, so I guess the roughness makes sense.

I'm assuming the majority of the development time was spent on the art, because it is absolutely the highlight here. It's all very nice, and matches well. There are a few different styles on display but they all go together nicely. The character animations are a bit, but I think that was deliberate, and they're very smooth and natural. I appreciate the little details like Mina's ponytail and neck thing (yes, I don't know what that's called).

Although I did notice that some of the character portraits were cut off- was the dialogue system going to be a different style originally?

The gameplay is fun in general, and all the elements are there, but it needs some tweaking. This is kinda subjective, but it feels "sticky"- movement isn't fluid. It can also be hard to avoid taking damage in some cases.

But... there seems to be no incentive to transform. The minigun doesn't fire faster than I can fire the pistol by hammering the fire button, doesn't seem to do more damage, and can't be fired while crouching. I think this would work better if the minigun was considerably better than the pistol or there were other benefit to transforming.

There's also an easy degenerate strategy for defeating the boss but I'm not sure if I would count that as a positive or negative.

The story is witty, and I like where (I think) it's going, but playing through I feel like I'm missing context. A thin story is understandable if this is more of a prototype, but it's something to think about if you keep going with this.

The music and sound work well enough although it does feel like a bit of an afterthought. There's also a bug of sorts where enemies can kill you during conversations, and the conversations themselves are a bit clunky. Finally, I won't spoil the ending, but it really does feel like an "oh crap I'm out of time" thing.

Do you have any plans to develop this further? I think there's a really good game here.

Developer

yay thanks for playing xcvg sempai!!!!!!... there a a lot of thing that i rushed and don't make to deliver it in time, it is quite hard to  develop it on 2 hours daily... the diferent art stuff mostly because i never have made pixel art before and the poitraits are all made in two days or 4 hours lol... din't have even time to make the line art properly... sorry for bugged game lol.. the true is when you transform you can hold the button to shoot.

i don't plan to develop it furher because it kinda meet its purpose ...there is to showcase my skills ,i plan to join a group or some project and its is difficult to prove that you can do something.... now they will see the game and run away lol.

thanks again hopeful that you develop shattered 2.

That's fair. I'm kind of disappointed you're not taking this further but I totally understand your reasoning. I'd say your strength is definitely with art- if you'd told me pixel art was your bread and butter I would have believed you as it is very well done.

Shattered 2 is more a matter of when than if now; I had tentatively planned it for the end of this year but I've decided to take a break in October and this year has been so unpredictable I don't know what my November and December will look like. So it may end up being next year instead.
