This was so hard! But I think that's part of what kept me coming back to try again. This is a well put together game from the art to the mechanics. Those bunnies are very deceptive, too.
I wondered if the character moved too quickly, but maybe it's set that way to give reprieve and outrun the bunnies. I also really wanted a wall hike maneuver. I get the cliff hang is supposed to kind of give that feeling, but this feels perfectly set up to earn that ability, even if for just one use.
Great work!
Thanks for playing and giving us your opinion. If I update the game in the future, I will improve the sense of speed and parkour mechanics.
the pixel art, battles, and aesthetic is lovely! this makes me really want to play slide scrollers more!
very polished game
also difficult but eventuially had to learn a pattern to beat the bosses
muscle bunnies be damned!
I have to say I have died a lot. But then I figured out that I shouldn't aggreesively attack enemies, instead I should just embush at a safe spot or sometime just bypass them. I like the graphic and music.
Why rabbits? Is it a "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" reference? It's a fun theme interpretation. In the begining I really get a feeling that they are just background animals that i can kill but shouldn't. And then they started attacking me and I find out they are bascially the main enemies in the game.
I think the game will be easier if I can attack when moving.
Yep, it is a reference to the Killer Rabbit.
I will think in adding move attack in a future update, maybe it could be a powerup. Thanks for the idea!
I really love the aesthetic of this game! High quality pixel art, a nice color palette, and a good atmosphere overall! Reminds me a little of the Momodora series, which is a person fav of mine. I also liked the transformation moment when you get the spear!
The idea of a magical girl fighting a bunch of cuddly rabbits (and muscle rabbit men) is inherently amusing, and I enjoyed that as well. The music and SFX all fit nicely.
The platforming gameplay has a lot of good ideas. The ledge grab is a good mechanic, and a spear is a great weapon choice. However, I found the overall physics and controls a little clunky. Jumping and maneuvering through some of the harder sections felt tedious more than fun, and I often found myself getting hit by enemies as I floundered around. One other thing I hugely missed was some sort of aerial attack. Being locked into the flailing falling animation, while cute looking, became frustrating during combat. I got more adept at the controls as the game went on, but it always felt a little off.
Despite the challenge, I did manage to beat the game!
Overall, I do think this is great work! With just a bit of work to streamline the physics and control, I think this will be a top notch metroidvania!
Thanks for playing!
P.S: Thanks for the comments, I will use them in the future if I continue with the project.
Very cute and consistent artstyle that has been well polished (I mean, look at this awesome main menu). I'm even more terrified of rabbit that I already was after the ReZero's Great Rabbit, but it also gave me good and funy vibes of Magical Girl Boy with all these rabbit bodybuilders.
Gameplay wise, at first, it felt more like an infiltration game as the player that don't have a safe scenario to learn how to deal with the bodybuilders (At least that is how I felt). After a dozen death where I used my previous body to unlock doors after another, I managed to reached the first boss encounter. (I'm probably juste terrible at it though). From what I described, it also sounds like your game fit nicely the "Death, Be not Proud", "Under pressure" and "Life's but a walking shadow" btw. =w=)_Io
Did finish the game after a good 15min, and the last encounter was not super hard but good enough to close the adventure. I continued to explore and noticed I missed the attack speed buff, so I went back to the final room and did the boss again =w=) (dunno if that was supposed to happen, but no bgm on that second fight).
I would just have like to get some lore about the world, maybe under the form of logs scatter around by the now dead people or scratch on the walls... Dunno, I just liked the mysterious atmosphere and would have like to get hints of how these rabbits managed to get that beefy... and also why a good looking prietress seemed to be behind this macabre invasion...
Also, this game is probably the wet dream of Rayne Ames (Mashle - vol. 6, bonus).
Thanks again for the good time, was fun. Let me know if you update the game with lore or want more feedback.
It makes me very happy that you liked the game.
Regarding the lore, I resorted to environmental storytelling to give clues to the player. If I continue with the game in the future, I will expand it and resort to other forms such as npcs or notes like you said.
If the game scores well in this jam and the Metroidvania jam, I'll consider working on it to add all the things I had planned. T_T
fingers crossed =w=)
I like aesthetic, game performed in pleasant colors, also buns are cute and BIG buns - best. A little bit odd fall animation, yet good pixel art. With music it will be a masterpiece
I'm glad you like it.
Great work, love the visuals! Unfortunately I couldn't jump in the game with space so I couldn't progress much. I will rate the game when I can fully play the game! Meanwhile please come check ours out!
At the start of the game you can't jump, it is necessary to reach certain place to get the ability to do it.
Ah, I see I will try the game again
I found the weapon! BTW this is the spot in the beginning where I got stuck without the abilities. Also, have rated the game :) great job!
I'm going to take notes and i will fix it in the future, thanks you for the feedback.
Ah yes I got into this situation too in my first try XD
