I AM RATING THESE ALL THESE JAM SUBMISSIONS RELATIVE TO ONE ANOTHER. THERE ARE HIGH HIGHS AND LOW LOWS BUT PLEASE DON’T TAKE THIS TOO PERSONALLY, AFTERALL, WE ALL ONLY HAD A MONTH.
Implementation of Theme (3):
So close to a perfect score. Expanding the MC’s social circle did not cut it for me. Perhaps if there were more interactions with the other delinquents besides Akuma, I would have given it another point but it just kind of feels like a shoe-horned theme implementation.
Story (5):
This was a great story to weeb out to that didn’t weeb too hard. If this had happened to me at my school, I would have been swooned.
I was kind of worried that based on the title, that all of the delinquents would be there unlikeable and irredeemable assholes but they grew on me in a non-Stockholm Syndrome kind of way.
I’m surprised you didn’t have it take place in the Wakayama Province so you can continue your trend of having all your VN’s take place in “W” States/Provinces.
Presentation (5):
I should have expected that Mr. JapaneseStarBitsCandyCat would have tried a manga styled VN eventually and for a VN Jam it was perfect. You were able to cram a lot more into this VN because you didn’t need to worry about color. I’m honestly surprised that there isn’t another Furry Visual Novel that tries to go a for manga style like this.
The music choice was superb and it was fun seeing you unleash your inner Hatsune Miku. I also remember a lot anime sounding SFX’s which really makes you feel like you’re playing a manga.
My only complaint was that for a B&W VN, it was kind of weird that the characters’ names were colored. I would have tried to use different symbols like a B&W 😈 before and after Akuma’s name for example.
Creativity (5):
I loved the set-up for this VN. Every bully stereotype that just ended up being a misunderstanding was hilarious. I’m surprised that no one has tried to do this type of dynamic before. I can see this becoming tiring if done for too long but since it’s a Jam VN, it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.
There were a few Japanese treats that I learned about through this which only makes me want to go to Japan even more. Said treats, I haven’t even seen YouTubers sponsored by Sakuraco and TokyoTreat talk about.
Total (18):
This is a VN that deserved to have won the Jam and I’m glad that its popularity has lead to more eyes on WIFL and WIKY. I’m kind of glad that it wasn’t a blowout like Before You Depart from MAY WOLF 2024 because that would have meant that I NEED to change how voting for MAY WOLF 2025 works. We are changing it for 2025 but not because of this Submission in particular.
I wasn’t a fan of the extra scene that was added after the release. The first release left off with a perfect ending and the extra scene just slightly tainted that ending.
Let’s hope that having a completed FVN trilogy doesn’t lead to too much stress on your shoulders.
Akuma is my punk babygirl I love him.
By far the most character I've seen in all the submissions I've read so far. The art is full of life and energy, and my gods I'm so happy DECO*27 is in here. I don't have much to add other than the only nitpick I have is the "epilogue" after Haruto steels their resolve to be Akuma's boyfriend and the screen fades to black. That would have been a good stopping point instead of the scene in the shed. That felt like it could have been an unlockable side story after reading the whole story. Still! I enjoyed this VN a lot.
I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said. This is the most solid vn in the entire jam. Perfect scores across the board.
I'm guessing the expending part was expend your horizons or open your mind to change?
Very nice entry, it's very cute, the artstyle looks coherent throughout, good use of filters to make the BG seem consistent. The sprites are very cute as is the story. I really don't have much to add to that. The story itself is very much rom-com by the books and slice of life school isn't my type of story but I enjoyed it nonetheless, it does it's job, especially for a gamejam project.
The presentation looks nice as I said, it's coherent and there is some CGs added with it too.
My only nitpicks would be the font use that is a bit too straining on my eyes, a bold font like that is tiring to look at after a while so I switched to renpy's default.
Good Job with that entry!
It’s a nice and chill vn 🥰 It was a bit hard to fit the theme expanding, but besides that I had a great time reading it, good job!
NOOOOO WHY IT ENDED SO QUICKLY, I WANT TO SEE MORE OF THIS DUO
I can see your artistic progression since "When I Knew You" with more refined character sprites, and I feel your writing has also improved. I like the visual flair of the comic book style.
My only nitpick is I do feel a few of the photo backgrounds were too busy for the scenes.
I was waiting for the use of color and wasn't disappointed. I knew it was going to give 'the moment' maximum impact. This was a great story with good pacing and potential to be expounded on in future installments should you ever choose to do so.
Fantastic writing. A good mix between a gay-fantasy we'd like to live and a piece of fiction with well established characters and controlled anime tropes.
The only nitpick I could have is : the story is too perfect in the sense that it gets what the characters want without much of a fuss, it could benefits from a few bump in the road.
Overall, loved it. 5/5. Perfect wolf boyo.
