Really really well done. Everything felt super polished, and the concept was clever as well. My only complaints are that I wish there was audio, and that the controls felt clunky. I think raising/lowering the mech would feel much better if they were handled with left control/space rather than f/v as those correspond to how most PC users are used to thinking about crouching and jumping - not exactly the same as raising/lowering, but on a conceptual level, it might be more intuitive. Anyway, aside from that, I had a really good time with this. Good job!

The art here is top notch and holds a consistent style throughout; the sign of a well thought-out plan! So many great little touches; from the user manual style control explanation to the guidance from the prof. But that movement mechanic is probably my favourite thing of it all. The concept is straightforward but gives so much flexibility that crawling through urban wreckage is just fun to do. You managed to perfectly display why mecha are so awesome (while my own, thanks to lack of said flexibility and those damn low bridges, kind of makes them just look Awesome But Impractical... I mean, the fire engines could've been there way quicker, but I was gonna have rubble and obstacles etc. ANYWAY...). Sometimes it takes some encouragement to go over an edge, but it always felt to me like I was working within limits of the machine rather than faulty controls.

Indeed, the only real gripe I have is lack of sound. But, I think it's better to have no audio at all than bad audio. So when your sounds source fell through, going without was probably better than rushing something to spoil an otherwise very polished jam.

Awesome game ! I played it all the way through, and i really love the cartooney art style, the mech design with matching pods is so good, and for a solo made thing, these city maps are also really cool, and as a fellow Godot dev, i found the "professor godot" character pretty funny :p

2 small issues if i had to nitpick :

1) didn't really affect the game but was visible since you let the console in the build, and that's all the errors @D.Galga mentioned below

2) sometimes it was a bit hard to judge where you could walk or not, i've had some steps where i didnt seem to be able to climb up and manage to do so upon insisting, and i guess that was the intended path since i found some capsules up there, and the same goes with finding ways to go back down, though i gotta point that this issue was in part mitigated with the ability to pickup and drop freely at anytime the capsules, so i was able to drop some off the edge and then find my way down eventually.

Oh and i know this is probably cause of time constraints but too bad the game lacked any sound, it would have been cool to complement the high level polish of the visuals ^^

Ok now despite these, solid game and it was fun, plus you made a well explained tutorial about every aspect and i like how levels got gradually bigger to ease you in

Good job :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to play and comment.

It's quite frustrating being totally aware of most of the issues people are going to have with the game, but without enough time, or perhaps just not the right focus to fix the important issues instead of doing the fun things :) I definitely wanted to improve the controls and make it easier to move around and had several ideas for how to do it, but I just didn't. Maybe I'll go back to it one day and fix it, but I got kinda burned out working on it for now.

Lack of sound was a huge bummer. I didn't appreciate enough what a huge difference even just a few choice sound effects can make to the game. Hopefully my next jam game will have sound.

Got a few errors. Start menu:

"ERROR: Condition "!is_inside_tree()" is true. Returned: Transform()

   at: get_global_transform (scene/3d/spatial.cpp:272)"

A few from gameplay:

ERROR: Error calling method from signal 'uncoupled': 'KinematicBody(Player.gd)::_on_cargo_decoupled': Method not found..

   at: emit_signal (core/object.cpp:1238)

ERROR: Error calling method from signal 'visibility_changed': 'Control(LevelClearUI.gd)::_on_PauseMenu_visibility_changed': Method not found..

   at: emit_signal (core/object.cpp:1238)

ERROR: Error calling method from signal 'tree_exiting': 'Control(LevelClearUI.gd)::_on_PauseMenu_tree_exiting': Method not found..

   at: emit_signal (core/object.cpp:1238)

Found Player: PlayerMech

Despite the errors, the game ran smoothly. Very good execution. The controls do feel a little clunky, and I wished for the ability to force the mech to drop and fall from an edge it didn't like a few times. I like the concept, and enjoyed the game.

Thanks for the feedback. I should definitely have tried to clean up those errors or figure out how to hide the console altogether, since I didn't notice anything bad happening as a result of them. I just ran out of time because I was going on my hols a couple of days before the jam ended.

Yeah, allowing the mech to jump down was something I wish I'd added, but the IK legs were a bit too in charge and I just kinda stopped improving that stuff as I was crunching on making assets. I should probably learn to use free assets a bit better so I can spend time on the more important things like gameplay and perhaps the main assets like the mech etc.

Fantastic visuals and gameplay mechanic. Would have loved some sound though!

Thanks for playing!

I have a friend that was going to help out with audio, but I probably didn't pester him enough about it and ended up without sounds.

Good visuals and an original concept. The controls were a bit clunky, and sound effects/music would have enhanced the experience.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, I feel you on the controls. I had ideas for how to improve them but ran out of time. Might have also been interesting to go the other way and make them purposefully clunkier, but fix the janky aspects.

I look forward to checking your entry when I'm back from vacation :)

Really cool art style and leg movement and original interaction mechanic, camera feels very clunky though. Great game overall.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, the camera needed more work, but I left it at near debug first implementation because I ran out of time.

Hope to check out Rocket Mechs when I'm back home in a few days.

Lovely art and I love the little doofy mech + ik. Changing heights is really cool, and I love kicking cars around.

Great tutorial texts too! I never felt stuck

Really fantastic work, especially for one of your first times using Godot!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much. The mech kicked the rescue pods too at one point, but it got a bit frustrating :)

Looking forward to checking your and the other entries out in a few days.
