Cute art style!  I think the concept is neat and the lighting effects are cool.  However the movement felt  hard in a lot of places. Also, I  didn't really feel like the powers did much of anything to progress through the game.  I really enjoyed the menus though.  Overall, I think it's going in a good direction.

I really liked the look of this game, I was immediately drawn in by the theming and graphics. Playing the game I found the movement to be stiff at best, and pretty janky in other places. When trying to go down the ladder, I wasn't actually able to and had no choice but to take the damage. I was also unsure if I was supposed to be pushing one of the rocks or not because the pace it moved was so slow it felt like a bug, but there was also definitely a rock-sized hole beyond it. After that section, I was unable to climb the next ladder and so unable to progress. So I liked the game in presentation (the lighting was nice, the graphics were fun, the main character was appealing) but the implementation is unfortunately holding it back.

The ladder was interesting. The backstory was an entertaining addition. The movement felt a bit off. Still an appealing concept for a game.

ART

Liked the cartoon vector style, the heart texture didnt match the style though.

SOUNDS

All fine, nothing standout

GAMEPLAY

I liked the concept and the idea of a mining metroidvania got me excited. But I was left a little disapointed, The jump felt really awkward and strange, shoving the rock into the whole took ages and looks really odd (to the point I thought I was cheating :)) I also got stuck on the ladder after that rock and could not progress any further.

OVERALL

Style and settings were really good but the meovement needs some attention, good effort and great job on submitting!

Really cool! I did get stuck inside of the terrain via the ladder, not sure how I did that, and the items didn't appear to be switching. Overall, good game, good job.

What I liked

  • Visually and sound-wise, your game is pretty good. There is the "heart" item that I point in the next section, but other than that, it looks and sounds good.

What needs Improvement

  • Unless it was just me, main menu's button don't have any visual feedback. It plays a noise on hover, but I expect to see a change in its appearance, if only minor, that lets me know.
  • Controls menu has D listed as down instead of S
  • Controls menu doesn't have the running with shift icon
  • The "thumb print" texure on the hearts looks stands out from the rest of the coherent visual theme that you have.
  • Jumping to navigate stairs and inclines/declines in the floor feels off.
  • There is a consistent bug that happens whenever a player is sprinting against a wall with a ladder next to it. You clip through the corner and get stuck.
  • Could never use the collected items

Congrats for submitting an entry before the dead-line and good luck!

I like the art style and music a lot. I did not like the mechanics as much. Jumpin up the stairs was weird, and sometimes it took ages to climb stairs. Also I could not select items, I only turned the lamp on and off. At last I ended up outside the map and got stuck. Never experienced the matroidvania aspects, because I never could use the items. I could turn the light on from the start though, was that a bug?

I played for about 10 minutes but I got stuck :c I had no idea how to use the "?" signs after trying almost every key on my keyboard as well as clicking on them. There was no indication to me if I had selected the mining helmet or the pickaxe either. Am I missing something?

Other than that, I think the graphics and music are pretty good. The story setup sounds interesting, just wish I knew how to continue. If you can shed some light on that, I'll try again!
