Really fun, taught me not to wait until the last 12 hours to complete a game

Really nice entry, feels floaty though but aside from that it is enjoyable

Me are die! fun little self contained experience. The whole thing was like a mini puzzle of figuring out where to go, and how to position yourself. The only thing is it seemed like enemy spawns were a bit random? Or moving to different areas of the map? I would plan to take on a part of the area in a certain way and then the next time I restarted they would be placed differently so I couldn't enact that strategy. Pretty good overall for what it is.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your input! Yeah, I didn't prevent the enemies from moving around before the player even ENTERS the bunker, and they'll just wander looking for the player.

I like the art, is funny to, good work!

Developer

Thank you!

Very fun game. I really appreciate it when the core gameplay loop of a game is fun and then expanded on. It gives you a lot of time to really hone in on what it is you're doing and it usually shows in the final product.

The one wish I have for this game is I wish I could shoot while in the air. It would have made for some awesome sneak attacks!

Developer

Thanks for your input! I plan to add a lot more soon, so be on the lookout!

Submitted

I liked it, actually pretty fun, but waaaay too difficult, please add checkpoints!

Developer(+1)

Don't worry, I'll add checkpoints... After I make it 100 times harder! Mwahahaha! Thanks for playing!

Submitted

nice game, really hard to advance, nice death animation for ninjas with guns.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I made it a bit difficult so I can pack as much playtime in as little a game as possible haha

art wise I liked the style, you conveyed a lot of character with very few pixels which is a skill all of it's own - wish you could jump and fire at the same time, and that you had some invicibility time -  but fun game and good entry! :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your input! I've always been told that the fewer pixels there are, the more value each pixel has.

Art wise the characters look neat but the environment and background is quite bland. The enemies tended to kill me pretty quickly and even If i won I'd lose a lot of health; the only time this didn't happen is if I had stairs or something to keep ducking behind, then I'd avoid a lot of the damage.

Developer

Thank you for your input! Art isn't my forte, so I didn't have time to make a complete tileset with decorations, but eventually I'll get to it.

Submitted

Congratulations on your first full gamejam game! The art style is pretty cohesive all around. I thought the "Wrong hallway" text was funny, and having nukes inside of the pits instead of it just being a pit is pretty original! ;p

Some gameplay things:

Other people have mentioned it but I miss some sound effects. The player also needs a (short) invincibility time as I lost 3 hearts in less than a second while getting shot. I found I could just jump on top of the enemies and pretty much skip needing to shoot them entirely. I could also alternate R/Space to just constantly shoot without ever needing to reload. This is why reloading should take some time before it completes.

Good job on finishing a game and I think you can be proud of your gamejam submission! :)

Developer

Thank you for your input! The invincibility timer isn't something I considered, which I will definitely add soon. Funnily enough, I do have a reload timer node on the player, but because I didn't have time to nerf the enemies, I needed to throw the player a bone. Eventually I will make it good!

Had a great time playing the game, didn't expect the boss at the end. The gunplay feels a bit lacking due to the player not having any way to avoid or defend against enemy attacks.

I do like the aesthetic of the game, it really gets the vibe of a retro licensed game of a cheesy action movie. The platforming feels really difficult and the lack of checkpoints can get frustating, but I had a lot of fun figuring out the best way of besting each group of enemies.

Congrats on the submission!

Developer

Thank you for your input! Eventually, I plan to overhaul everything and make it a fully fleshed out game, but that's in the FAR future. Until then, cheesy action movie it is.

Submitted

I love the artwork, I love the cheeky death tips, and I love the classic feel of the game. I die super easy, but I just suck at the game. The game feel's great and everything has an all-around nice attention to polish. Very nice submission!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your playing! I made the game to be super hard but with a few "features" to make it easier.

Honestly quite fun but it has some small issues.

Starting positive, i like your character sprites, they have quite some cool little animation for the low res style you went for, and i like the very John Mcclane inspired player character (at least that's the vibe i got from him XD)

The controls felt nice and responsive and i like that you have a reload mechanic in there, on the plus side your game works with a controller, not sure if you planned to have it since the in game prompt only mention keyboard keys, so it's a cool bonus ^^

Unfortunately there are some issues as i mentioned,

combat is really hard cause you can only shoot straight foward and your level design has slopes, so this creates some situations where you can't really attack enemies unless you jump right down in the middle of sometimes groups.

Some of the jumps are a bit hard to judge like the one after you collect the yellow keycard.

And finally it's too bad there is no sound at all in the game, i think with some sfx and a small music loop you can add quite a bit more life to the game.

Now with that said what's good here is really good, and i had a good time trying it, i don't know if it was one of your inspirations but your game to me really has that oldschool Apogee platformers vibe like the first Duke Nukem for Dos.

Keep up the good work, good job :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your input! I did get inspiration from the best Christmas movie of all time, Die Hard. I do plan to add better combat mechanics and audio later, but I'm taking a small break as of right now, so stay tuned for version 0.1.1 in the not-so-near future!

Submitted

No problem that's understandable after a jam :)

And haha i knew it ! Although your character did have time to put shoes on XD

I really missed some more SFX in the game, it makes a huge difference when you have audio input of what you are doing.

The game feels too floaty. It is not bad to navigate around, but being stuck in the air for too long when jumping is a little tedious. Also, not being able to fire when jumping leaves you very vulnerable when it takes too long to land again.

The AI messed me a few times because they would get in ramps  where I couldn't jump them just push them around. Maybe disabling them when they are not in your view could be a good solution overall, because you can kill them from a long distance without they reacting to it.

I feel like you die pretty fast, one small mistake and you have 10 bullets in your torso.

By polishing these aspects your game could improve quite a lot, but I must admit that I had fun fooling around with the guards 😜.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your input! SFX is something I really need to work on, poor planning on my part. I like your idea about disabling them when not in range, I might steal that.

Submitted

Seeing that you have used Godot, take a look at the VisibilityEnabler node, it has this exact same function and it is really easy to implement (just put it in your enemies and adjust the visibility range!)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the help! I'll probably take a little break from this project, but I'm sure to come back to it at some point.

The silence is a bit... off... Regardless, great game, the enemy AI is also quite impressive, except for that part where you can step on their heads without them being bothered.

The nuke, was a big surprise, but it provided a huge comic relief to me.

Overall, nice game, cool visuals, pretty smart enemies, very brutal lack of checkpoints and a fairly balanced health system. For once, the players and the npcs have the same health.

Can't wait to see more of this, maybe add a checkpoint next time, please? With more nukes. ;)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your input! More nukes, add checkpoints, better guards, got it. Be sure to check out version 0.1.1 when it releases in the next... Millenia sounds about right.

Submitted

I really missing Sound, just a pew Sound for the shooting would be already perfect.

The Jump of the Character is funny and makes a lot of fun just jumping around like an idiot xD

To make the Game easier beatable you might wanna consider shooting in the Air, because at the moment its hard to get by some of the areas especial when those Enemies are standing on the Stair and not moving at all, you cant approach them you will die always as a player.

Solid Work, keep going!

Developer

Yeah, I wanted to add SFX, but I procrastinated WAY too hard, and I didn't add air shooting because I didn't want to make new sprites.

Thanks for your input!

pretty fun, the art is nice - I trapped the shadow thing in the hole at the bottom, stopping me from progressing I think? some of the spawns of guards are pretty rough with them camping the stairs :D

Developer

Thanks! I had about 12 hours left to do the boss AI and the guards are... Shall we say, jank

nice, man!
