Impressive how polished and complete this is. I love how much is interactable/slashable in the background. Good sound design and visuals, overall solid controls and camera, feels like playing a proper game. I agree with the other commenter that while the game systems (like alchemy, inventory, etc.) are cool, it is a bit of an information overload. Ideally it's spaced out a bit more over the first section of the game.
Some minor nitpicks: Looking up/down could be a little faster, the delay feels a bit too long. Jump feels a little weird too because of a slight delay, I have to hold the spacebar for longer than I expect and keep accidentally making just a little hop. Though I can see how holding the spacebar longer makes for a longer/higher jump, but I naturally expect a regular press to give me a regular jump.
Unity tip: you could consider using Platform Effector 2D on platforms, which makes it so that when you jump into a platform from below, you can pass through it (and don't annoyingly bounce into the 'ceiling'). Unless of course you specifically want to limit the player's ability to jump in places.
Thank you for playing, and thank you very much for all the feedback, suggestions and the unity tip.
Wow, this feels really polished and complete. I kept finding myself saying "oh it has this too? Cool." Very playable. Nice cohesive atmosphere to it. I like the attention to detail, such as the leaf bits moving around. Sound effects and music fit as well, good quality. I have to get my uber-gamer friend try this out.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that.
Wowee, there is so much going on here! You've really fit a lot of interesting little systems and mechanics into the game, which is just insanely impressive to me considering that this is a jam entry. Not to mention, the art and sound design feel very nice, and much of what I experienced feels very polished. Seriously, I want to reiterate that this game is just really impressive.
If I have any feedback, it's that the systems might almost be too much for me. While it's really cool to immediately be dropped into the game and make that "path" choice, I also had no idea what any of it meant as I made it. A similar thing happened with the alchemy system, which I still don't know that I totally understand. My point isn't that these systems are poorly designed, but rather that there is just a bit of information overload for me as a player.
I will admit that, because of how I rate game jam entries and the time I have to spend on each one, it's very possible that as you play these systems really begin to click and make sense. And I'll also say that the game still felt super cool and was fun!
(Oh, and a small bug to report too! If you walk to the left in the beginning of the game, you seem to be able to walk off the edge of the world as we know it, haha.)
Thank you for playing and thank you very much for all the feedback and the bug report.
I'm genuinely impressed by the depth and complexity of the systems in this game, especially considering the limited time frame of the jam. If all this was crafted without external engines within the jam's duration, it's truly commendable. Stellar work!
Thank you for playing. The player script, enemy script, and the effect manager is reusing my old scripts.
There's a lot of details in the background art, with all the undergrowth and plants you can slice! There's also a large amount of systems, although I have to admit that I wasn't in the mindset to explore all of them in a game jam. I also like the map on road signs!
here's a recording when I tried the game at timestamp 1:47:20
Thank you for playing.
The pixel art is stunning and very high quality! I just found it hard to see what exactly in the environment I was interacting with, I was just blindly pressing W to see what would pop up. Maybe you can highlight the interactive environmental elements with an outline when the player comes closer? Overall, good job!
That is good idea. i will try that. thank you for playing.
Thank you.
Love the UI design . Gameplay is also great.
Thank you.
