Probably the best entry so far. Five stars across the board. GG

Enjoyment 4/5: This suffered for a couple of segments wherein a single missed fireball dodge sends you back several repetitive screens.

Execution 5/5: Technically excellent pretty much no notes.

Sensory 4/5: Good presentation/use of gameboy aesthetic overall

Metroidvania 4/5: This one is tough, because clearly the mobility abilities help, but there's not really much in the way of the exploration aspect and it feels a bit more puzzle-platformer. If we had decimals it would probably lose another .5 points.

Your game looks very cool, I liked the style, sounds and plot. It was fun to play it

Really well made tiles and sprites! The set up with the character splitting is also interesting!

Here's a recording when I tried it 2:35:48

The retro-style graphics were a delightful throwback to the Gameboy games of my past. I was particularly impressed with the cutscenes and camera feedback, which enriched the overall ambiance of the game. Well done!

What?! Insanely cool! I've been wanting to learn GB Studio recently, but haven't been able to get it working on my device, and now you're making me even more sad that I haven't been able to get it working!!

The style is awesome, both the sounds and the art. The cutscenes are super cool, although there's maybe a little too much exposition in the start for me personally. I also wish that there were some hearts or something instead of just one hit killing you, or maybe make spawn points a little closer together. As someone who is terrible at everything, I ended up needing to go through decent sized sections more times than I would've liked.

But overall, this is an insanely polished and ridiculously stylish little demo. I love it!

loved the idea, and retro style. has a feeling of nostalgia

wow, this was surprisingly polished... art and music were  on point, and gameplay felt really  good.

Loved the retro style and the twin mechanic.

Good Game, good mechanics

Very cool concept! I like the split character mechanic. The presentation was also very cool, has a nice overall vibe. I was worried that switching between characters and having to retread the same ground twice would get tedious but having both characters teleport on screen loads was very smart and alleviated that worry. Good work!

Love the concept and it was executed really well. Felt just like the old gameboy games! The controls were a little strange getting used to but once I got them down it was quite fun to play! Good job!

Nice game. Especially your art, it's really well done. Hit points will be great since the respawn point is quite far sometimes.

This is a creative game that offers the fun of decryption by alternately controlling two characters. It's very engaging.o( ̄▽ ̄)d

thank you so much for playing my game!

A very cute and cohesive game! The twin-switching concept is very interesting and I liked the little cutscenes! Maybe there could be a bit more hints on how to solve the puzzles as sometimes it was a bit confusing for me. Nicely done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah! A hint system is a good idea! I will definitely think about it in the future!

Beautiful game design. Sprites you made looks fantastic! Characters are cool and adorable.

Game is super solid and consisted, looks and feels very profesional, congratz!

Split mechanics suprised me, it was very nice idea to use it in metroidvania focused on puzzles. You also put it very well into the plot. Arcade elements where you needed to avoid the projectiles were quite challenging, but rewarding. I will gladly check the full version. Well done my friend!

thank you so much! I am so happy to hear that! I will definitely continue the development of this game so if you want to follow me on twitter I will keep everyone posted there!

Good execution and sensory experience. I dig the character switching idea. The game felt a bit slow to me (as in, character movements and actions, such as loading after a game over), but that might just be because I'm a fast-head haha. Nice one!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing! It's a good point though! I can try to speed up things a little bit, it is an actual Gameboy game so the hardware can't take tooooo fast-paced, but I can try! :)

HostSubmitted(+1)

Ah that's fair! Don't mind me I just like when things go fast haha, it's just personal preference

The artwork and concept for this game are amazing, I especially loved the cutscenes at the start. Can't wait to see the full game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I love making the cutscenes tbh, my fav part! I will keep working on this project throughout the year so feel free to follow me on twitter or itch, I will keep everyone posted! :)

Cool game the art is absolutely fantastic keep up the good work.
I am only concerned about the death mechanic if it's not going to become extremely annoying down the line (because it already kind of is a little bit in the demo) , so consider adding hit points and restarting from a set position in the same screen.

Developer

Thank you for playing! That's an interesting point! I kinda rushed with the death mechanic a little bit due to the game jam's deadline but I will definitely put more thoughts on it!
