nice job on the game I had some issues getting more then 5 light plants going before they started turning off I probably will be able to do it if I play the game another time now that I know where the gas is at.

I noticed the enemy get larger as time goes on to the point that they are so large they couldn't even hit me not sure if that was intention on the size getting that large or not though made getting around pretty easy though.(that was on the game jam version of the game)

(I am now in a rush to test as many games as possible to help, so please do not mind the cursory reviewing style.)

Ah, an FPS apparently! Not played really many in game jams!

game page: misspelling "or helping out" -> "for helping out"

[testing the desktop version, as per advised ;) Using version 1.07 to be up to date, and since late submissions are possible, this seems fairer; I was about to download the game jam version and realized this! I will see the game jam version in the future :)]

WOW, crazy distortion effect! :D This is shader paradise (or hell, seeing the lava?…).

Controls are QWERTY-only instead of layout-independent (I have an AZERTY keyboard), BUT arrow keys are enabled. BUT not practical with the E key! :o

Escape ungrabs the mouse; is this normal?

Can you fall? Yes. X)

Ah, restarting: randomness!

Ah, moving faster in the light!

AAAAAAH!! :O Phew, slow but creepy!!

Wow, spawning rate is clearly an increasing function of the number of activated generators! XD Reminds me of "Slender Man".

Space to jump! Is it useful?

Can they get inside the shed? (Spoiler: where I found TWO gasoline jerrycans.) No?… Oh, died anyway! :o Is the "infinite bips" sound normal when losing?? :o Hard on the ears! I did not have it when I fell.

Firing on fruit: nice, green effect! :)

Actually, the enemies also get BIGGER… (And more resistant.)

Nooo, had to go the the possibly last generator, but the shadow made me even slower than before, and had NO CHANCE to avoid the guy…

Letting the game over screen: you hear more and more numerous howls. XD

Hey, you can pick up the gasoline through the walls! ;) Is this expected?

Ah, actually, the gasoline seems NOT to be random, merely your starting position (I think?).

MADE IT! Without damage! :D

Rescue phase: easier than the generator phase; the real trouble for the player, I think, is the effect of darkness on speed — both yours and the enemies’.

Takeaway: really cool concept: simple but effective mechanic (speed-inducing shadow)! And the enemies are super frightening in this dark and distorted small floating lava island… When enough generators are activated, I feel like firing on enemies is generally useless, the best is to find the next gasoline unit, the next generator, only kill the nearby enemies, and make a run for it! So, this is not brainless firing, you have to plan ahead somewhat. I just think the connection to the constraint is loose: the generators are quite solid once filled up (thank God for that! XD), and the time limit for the rescue phase is more of a generic concept. Other than that, the game felt very playable and pleasant! :)

Thanks for the fright (or no thanks, I guess?!) and the adrenaline boost! X)

PS: why the title Imsomed, by the way? Something escapes me!

really liked the art style! I love that almost VHS pixelated feel, especially for horror. Adds a whole extra element of unease to the game.

Developer

I'm glad you liked the style!  Thanks for giving it a try!

It is really, really good. Where do these things come from?! They are really had too notice at first until i almost had one on top of me. And it is so creepy when i am picking up gasoline and see their shadows coming after me….

Very, very good!

Developer

That was the intention!  Thank you so much for playing!

So good! WebGL version was perfectly fun and creepy, but downloading it was a totally different experience. Love the atmosphere and the enemies popping in randomly.

Thank you for playing!

I liked the graphics, they are very unusual) it was also a little scary. But I lacked more different sounds and a map, generators, maybe it would be even better if the map was bigger

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for playing, Mylti!
Yeh, I agree...  Unfortunately the map was left for the absolute last second and it ended up quite small and a bit boring

I really liked this game! I actually found it really scary - probably in part by the wacky effects. They're very disorienting and it's nerve-wracking when the Imsomed look larger in your perifery than when you look at them straight-on (those are both positive things haha). I love how big the Isomed are compared to the player, it just makes them terrifying when they get close to you. My only critique is that it's hard to know when you're going to run out of gasoline, and the Isomed move really fast in the dark, so when you run out of gasoline, even if you have more in your hand you're pretty much screwed. I think the best way to fix this would be to add some indicator that the gas is running low, such as the light getting dimmer.

Thank you for your feedback! It was fun to play with crazy, unusual effects this jam!
The Imsomed do actually get larger the longer you stay alive! More and more effects start to build up over time as you go insane.
The idea was for you to take the risk and walk in darkness so you can extend your light even though you know how disadvantaged you are in the darkness.
Ideally, you would want to start  all of the generators up before the first one runs out!
Thank you for playing!
