It is really hard to see what's happening during the fight, and there isn't a lot of feedback. But it sounds promising, and I like the artstyle !
Hard to see in what way?
I can't really tell if the enemy is taking damage, when they are attacking, if they are stunned, if I'm blocking correctly, why I can't move... Things like that.
Thanks for clarifying. I've got a few ideas for improving readability in the future so hopefully they'll make the game easier to understand.
The designs are super neat, I like that you made a few characters based on different music genres / cultures, it's unfortunate only the ballerina made it in. I think some things could be better communicated, I thought the ballerina was becoming red because I was hitting her, and not because she was preparing for an attack. The correct hit mechanic could also be improved on, as it stands you can beat the game by mashing. Maybe an incorrect hit can just push the enemy a little bit without dealing damage. And a perfect hit would have more visual (spawn particles and add some screenshake) / audio feedback to make it stand out? Regardless of all the possible improvement, core gameplay is still fun and I had a good time
Thanks so much! I'm glad you had fun, and I really appreciate the feedback. The color change was actually created so I could see when attacks were coming before the animations were in the game and it just stuck cus it worked for me, but I definitely should've considered how it looked to someone entirely new to the project. And I really wanted to make a feedback system but by the time I started thinking about it there were only a few hours left and I had other things that needed to be done first. So I didn't think I'd be able to write the code and make sure it worked well enough without cutting it too close for comfort on the submission deadline.
The character designs are fantastic! Everything looks great. I hope you continue adding enemies and levels. I wish there were sound effects apart of the music. I recommend you adding cooldowns to the player actions because you can spam the attack and the block and makes the game too easy.
Thanks for the feedback! There are some elements that incentivize playing on beat, but they're in the background so they don't really do what they're intended to as far as guiding playstyle. And I think there was a punishment to missed parries at one point but because I was having so much trouble with the inputs and animation triggers for blocking/parrying it ended up on the cutting room floor. I definitely want to take another pass at it in the future though.
The art and animations are some of the best in this jam! The gameplay is pretty basic but it feels satisfying and works well as a proof of concept.
Yeah, I'm glad my friend was free to do art for the jam. It would have been a very different project without him. Thanks for playing!
The graphics and the music are amazing! And it has a pretty fun gameplay. Note: After running directly into a ballerina my character got stuck in the running animation and couldn't do anything else. Overall, super fun, great job!
Sorry you got stuck, the animation triggers are a bit of a mess and I didn't have enough time for proper testing. But I'm glad you enjoyed it anyways!
Music is groovy and the art looks charming :)
Good job!
Thanks!
Loved the art espacily the disco guy he looks so cool :D. Gameplay is simple but fun. Maybe adding an audio feedback when missing or hitting could be nice. Overall had fun while playing :D
Yeah, getting feedback on hits is one of the first things on the list for an update, but I'm glad it was fun even without that!
Very good idea and graphic!
Thanks!
Very smooth animations. Darn those ballerinas.
the art is fun!
I wish we had a little more feedbacks when we hit/miss the enemy so we know if we're doing it right or not
Yeah, I really wanted to add feedback effects but we were running out of time. It's at the top of my list if I keep working on this though!
cool animations, the glasses is reference to kamina (TTGL)?
Not intentionally, but they sure do look like it lol
I love the concept and the sound is really well chosen. It's quite difficult but it's a really nice work !
Glad you enjoyed it! We worked really hard (and lost a lot of sleep lol)
