Liked the artstyle, but the platforming was kinda hard tho.

I do not like visual novels, so I didn't read texts (sorry) and answeres all first variants. I did finish 2 platformer levels. Second was very challenging (855 seconds)! But then...

Ooof, that doesn’t look good. I’ll need to check my code but at a glance, it looks like I forgot to escape the % sign (I was supposed to type 50\% wrong instead).

I love how the simple style of the art looks amazing!

This is a hidden gem, I can say that.
First of all, I enjoyed the narrative part a lot, BUT, the platforming part was a bit frustrating, and I can explain why. The player needs to be consistent with the moves, to be very responsive, that's what makes a good platformer.

Your character from the platforming part had an issue with the acceleration, because it was a bit too hard to accelerate and he stops very quickly, it needs to be the same as he starts moving.
I suggest you make the platforming part more on point, you press a button it moves immediately rather than slowly accelerating.

The art is cool, it reminds me of the game KIDS, and I appreciate all kinds of art styles.

Overall a very fun game! Keep it up!
This is my feedback.

I really love this art, it is so simple but really effective! I think for me the intro before the first gameplay section is a bit long, but I didn't really mind because the dialogue was really fun, the music was absolutely excellent and fit the game perfectly, and all the UI and menus felt like they had an incredible amount of polish :) I loved the platforming sections, I am a big fan of difficult platforming and the art style just, worked for me, it fit perfectly!

All the best in  future and good luck for the results :D

I find the simple hand-drawn art charming. The visual novel style game mixed with platforming is a nice change of pace. Unfortunately the first platforming section kind of turned me off, with precise jumps and a destination that is off screen. I liked the music though!

I personally don't like narrative in games, but I went for a go...

I think is a best practice if you reward your player with narrative rather than introducing it at first, if it feels like a reward, player should pay more attention and enjoy more, imo.

At platform section I had so much discomfort by seeing the player in the low border of the screen, give at least some ground... Would help a lot.

The music choices was good o/

About your menu: not sure if is something that is auto generated by the software you used... If it was not, well, it was really pretty and great then!

Good job!

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah that’s a fair point. I was sort of going for the visual novel theme first (where visual novels are mostly, if not all, story) and tried to integrate 2D platforming second. I like the idea of going for 2D platforming first, narrative second, though, so I think I’m going to explore that one for my next game jam

Yep, that’s definitely fair lol. I did not have a lot of time to play around with the platforming game, and I had originally set the bottom of the screen to be ground. I was originally going to put a proper ground above it, but I had run into time limits unfortunately…

Yeah most of it is the auto generated Ren’Py menu screen. I added some degree of customization, but overall, there wasn’t much for me to change since the default menu screen is already good enough.

Thanks for playing and for the review mate! Best of luck with your game o7

The idea is so great ! The story is cool, really, well written and funny! But the plaforming part .... gosh I want to kill myself, that's so hard, I thought my game was hard, but I have a lot to learn xD.
Really great game! Hope you will improve the plaforming part!

I thought my game was hard, but I have a lot to learn xD.

Interestingly enough, I found your game to be substantially harder than mine, lol. Maybe it’s because we each find the platforming in our own games easier because we dev’d them? I feel like at least for me, that’s what happened, as I didn’t think the platforming was too brutal until it released and everyone is telling me that it’s way too intense XD

Thanks for the review, m8! Hope your game does well o7

The switching from visual novel to platformer is a solid idea. Tho this game is the dark souls of platforming, so of those jumps were so damn hard ahahha

Lol, yeah I definitely had the difficulty turned up to 11. I think I might tone down the difficulty of my games for future game jams unless the theme I’m going for really demands a tough game.

Thanks for the review! Best of luck with your own submission!

Well done! Platforming was harder than I would have personally liked, however.

I like the genre mix you came up with for the Jam! I found the platforming quite unforgiving, but the story aspect was pretty solid, nice work!

Submitted(+1)

Nice mix of genres, on the platform was quite hard to jump . Good job

Nice! Visual Novel/Platformer is a great Idea! This reminds me I am terrible at making platformer jumps! A thrilling though possibly unintentional aspect for me was that something about the way your guys legs move always makes me feel like I'm going to miss the jump, even if i make it!

Nice mix! The game is a little buggy but it's fun, great job!

Can't wait to spend a bit more time with this one. Great comedy story writing and fun ideas. I love the hand drawn artwork too.
