The art felt very well integrated! Gotta outrun all those spooky aliens.

Apart from what others have said about not having to fire the gun, I actually wanted to! But I thought that 4 shots to kill an alien was a pretty big deterrent to even bothering. I think maybe 2 shots, or 1 if you hit the head (each alien could have two collision boxes for the detection), could make firing the gun a lot more satisfying!

Theres several other guns, but the drop rate was too low in the jam build.  They kill in faster ways, and are a lot of fun to use

This game looks super good, well done on the visuals. I love how the outline around the assets makes them pop out a lot more. The lighting in the dark setting gave the game a nice spooky mood as well. The alien horde wrecked me the first time through as I was being slow and looking around.

I had a bit of trouble playing the web version as I'm on a laptop atm running a bit smaller than 1080p , and the game opened so big it had scrollbars horizontally and vertically! That said I was still able to see most of it. Otherwise, I felt the game was more fun to run around than shoot, there seemed to be a small delay for me from when I clicked to when the round fired.

Overall a really nice looking game that may need a few tweaks to gameplay to perfect it. Well done!

Hello, thank you for the review and liking my game :), unfortunately I ran into a lot of trouble trying to support other resolutions, glad the game worked for you for the most part though.  I haven't heard of anyone having delays when shooting, the post-jam updated Windows version may work better for you.

This game looks great!  And you managed to include a lot of different mechanics in a short amount of time.  Although, I do agree with dqmhose's comment: I was able to beat the game without killing any enemies.  I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, given that I had a lot of fun dodging all the different obstacles you made, the enemies included.  You could consider leaning into this, by getting rid of weapons and adding more enemy types that shoot projectiles in different patterns like a bullet hell, which you would only have to dodge not kill.  Nice work!

Developer (1 edit)

This is a super interesting take, a bullet hell type game mode could be a lot of fun!  I'll think about updating it with something like that, or make another game built around that concept.

Ok so.. I died so much that I found out you can just bypass every enemy including the boss by running.. guess I'm a speedrunner now :D

I'm not good with this type of game but I like the addition of the moving "wall" or whatever it was, so that you can't go back and take your time. For the other issue, I think maybe just have a trigger, if enemies are still alive, the fireplace is unlit or something and won't teleport you.

Still, pretty cool, liked the lighting a lot. An reloading was a strategic component I didn't expect to be so important :D

Thanks for the review! I've already updated the game to address your suggestions.  I'll send you a message once the jam is over if you'd like to try the improved version!

Looks pretty awesome, but it feels like it needs a bit more tweaking/playtesting, especially since you can beat it without firing a single bullet! For your first game though, this is definitely pretty well done, good job!

Developer

Thank you for the review, I definitely want to change the way the fires work at the end of the level, and slightly adjust the melee damage/gun drop rate.  Ran out of time though

Now in the post jam version, a list of other changes can be found on the game page. Thanks for the suggestion!
