Keep Cycling's itch.io page

How does your game fit the theme?
This is a game which takes the concept of a tower defence and gives it a twist. Instead of the player needing to place towers, the player is instead the one that needs to get to the end of the level. The game also includes card game elements, using them will aid you in completing the game

The player will play as Connor as he tries to cycle through the levels

There is no SFX or music (no time 😭)
Also the "Carb Loading" card doesn't work properly (forgot to change it, because no time 😭)
If you want to know how I made the game you can read through the documentation I did throughout the creation of the game. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AnrCzKSLjIndm_JCBxgysxMuHbW23CeH-krf2gpI2sY/edit?usp=sharing

Did your team create the vast majority of the art during the 4 days?

Yes

Did your team create the vast majority of the music during the 4 days?

No

oug?
yes

Similar to everyone else, I found the tutorial really difficult to read. After a few resets i read everything well, but the tutorial didnt explain to drag the cards in to use them, rather than just clicking on them. Took me a little longer to figure that out, but still not too bad. The levels were quite hard to follow, I think because the camera was a little too zoomed in which meant i couldn't plan ahead how to use the cards. I only won level one because the van gang card teleported me to the very end lol. It's a really nice concept though, would love to try out a more functional version!

I will definitely fix the problems you had with the game, don't know if I'll be able to add the click functionality but in terms of planning ahead I might add a way so you can move the camera freely up and down the map the scout before hand. Thank you for the criticism.

I can't understand the tutorial, and even less the game. There seems to be a very good idea, but sadly time played a big part in reaching that goal.  Hope you're able to fix the bugs/problems after the jam, I would love to see how this game was supposed to work!!

ye the tutorial wasn't great, I just slapped a text on there without explaining much because I needed to submit the project in 20 minutes. I'll definitely fix the bugs and problems with the game, atleast to a state where it is not so confusing.

I'm not sure if it's just me but I couldn't do ANYTHING In this game. The tutorial was impossible to read because the camera was going around in circles and then starting level 1 I instantly died before I was able to do anything with the cards or even read them. Maybe I'm doing something wrong I dunno.

Ye, sry about that I didn't have enough time to create a proper screen to allow people to read the cards. All the levels were created in the last few hours because man is it time consuming to develop your own card system and towers. You didn't do anything wrong it was entirely mb.

It is what it is in a gamejam don't beat yourself up over it :)

It was difficult to read those cards - but from what I've got I can see that I really like the idea and the visuals are nice :)

Developer

Ye, sorry about the readability of the cards and also the pace of the game, due to the common excuse of no time 😭. I did want to make a tooltips kind of UI where the description wood appear if you hover on the card but this was the best I could do in the time I was given. Thank you for liking the concept of the game, though the visuals were done in the last 3 hours so I'm not super proud of it but thank you for liking it.

I like the concept for this game, but as some other comments say, it's a little difficult to follow without a chance to read the cards. Having the player push a button to begin a level rather than starting straight away might be a good way to give them time to check the cards and see what they do.

Developer

I also had that same idea to allow the players to read the cards before playing but I only had 10 minutes left to submit the project 😭. There were so many things I would have loved to add which could have improved the user experience but due to my own lack of experience in creating games this is the best I could do I guess. Also thank you for liking the concept, though because it was quite the unique concept I needed to figure out how to create this type of system which took so much time.

If you balance this game a little it could be a nice game to play. Anyway, well done!

Developer

Thank you for playing my game and I agree this game definitely needs polishing.

it was confusing not being able to use the cards just by clicking

Developer

Sorry about that, I never actually thought of adding that mechanic to the game(actually don't know how). Originally I did want to have the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to activate them but I didn't want to sink any more time in adding more mechanics to my system but you do have a very fair point.

Interesting concept but as already mentioned by others: cannot even read cards before its already game over. Bonus Point for Copium card tho.

Developer

Ye, that was completely my bad, how you didn't have to much of a bad experience though. Also the cards I picked were supposed to be meme card so I'm glad you liked one of them.

Idea is interesting, but gameplay is over before one can even read what a card does.

Developer

Yep that is completely my bad.

Very interesting idea, creative use of tower defense and cards, never would have thought they could go together. Definitely keep working on it, I think you have a great idea there.

Developer

Thank you very much, I also think it is a unique idea with a lot of potential, but my game definitely needs A LOT of polishing due to my lack of experience. Anyways thank you for playing my game.
