There's a lot going on. Try to keep you game jam games simple. Build off one mechanic that you're very proud of. The nokia resolution is a very limiting factor as this game contains many different art assets which is quite a lot to take in all at once. There is also some sub pixel detail between the HUD elements.
There is no sub pixel details, maybe in the HTML 5 version but that's due to how the engine exports non DirectX based games. I also state in the description that the HTML 5 version isn't the definitive version of the game for this fact. As for the gameplay you may say it's overcomplicated, but it isn't required by the jam's rules for the gameplay to be simple. Personally I find it to just be a matter of preference, I have played countless jam entries with systems far more complicated than this game. At its heart I believe that it is a very basic gameplay concept.
fun little action game! nice mechanics with the followers and the towers.
but from the game's description I though you had to deal with the tower in order to move to next level.
Is it not? because even without dealing with the tower I can use the portal (?) to move on.
Hmmm, I'm not sure what you mean sorry about the portal? The only way the game is set up to progress to the next level is for the number of followers led to the tower to fall to zero. There shouldn't be any other way in the game's code to go beyond the level. If you could tell me more details that would be much appreciated. Thank you so much!
sorry, my mistake. I though that the follower starting points were portals.
Ah right understood, thank you!
I like this game and I fell that I back to it sonner or later.
Thank you I'm glad that you liked it 🙂
I love the style of this game it looks fantastic. Great job!
Thanks so much! I really worked hard on giving it a coherent accurate style so I'm glad you liked it. Really kind comments, thank you ☺️
Very fun game with a lot of underlying complexity. The playtime is just right and the world was a pleasure to explore. Your art has a nostalgic feel to it which I also really enjoyed. Great work!
Thank you very much! I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed it and thanks for taking your time to check my little game out, it's much appreciated.
I loved the concept, it would be really cool if it had music. The attack controls could benefit from a little bit more work. Great game overall!
Thanks, I would have liked to have added music but I'm not a very good composer and it would also pause the music every time you attack with the Nokia limitations so that's why I didn't really bother. There is a little death march that plays when you die though haha! I agree with the attack controls they do feel very awkward. I'm glad you enjoyed it though and appreciate the feedback!
I liked this one, except for the barbarians which beat me down :)
I wish there was a bit more variety in the combat, especially if there were something to help me with barbarians. Perhaps I was just bad at the game though.
I liked the aesthetic, and I could totally see this on a 3310.
Thank you very much that's very kind of you to say. I agree the combat is very wonky and unsatisfying, I'm sorry the barbarians really are annoying enemies. The best strategy I have found is to just gather loads of followers and shield them around you from the barbarian haha!
