I liked this one, except for the barbarians which beat me down :)
I wish there was a bit more variety in the combat, especially if there were something to help me with barbarians. Perhaps I was just bad at the game though.

I liked the aesthetic, and I could totally see this on a 3310.

So I reallllly like the idea of this game. It is simple, fun, addictive and the controls are pretty much there. However, the level design left a little bit to be desired. I beat the first three levels without using the time related features and then on the fourth level, I discovered them. In fact, that's when I started to really like the game.

If the levels introduced those features earlier then it would have been more fun overall.
Also, I couldn't beat the fourth level! The hallways are way too thin and leave too little room for error, IMO!

Great work!

Kind of an interesting game. It was almost like a turn-based RPG. I like the powerup bar. I could have used some powerups, or some interesting enemies. Or even maybe more interesting ways of utilizing the powerup bar. Thanks!

BTW, I did save the universe and it felt nice :)

This was a good first entry to game jams! It was addictive enough for me to get a score of around 300 :)
But I could not give you a full score because it does not follow a lot of the rules:
- Games must have a resolution of 84 x 48
- There should only be one audio channel and one sound played at a time

I wish there was a little bit more variety of things to dodge!

I'm sorry, I'm on Linux and I couldn't get it to run:

```
➜ BriX - Nokia 3310 wine BriX\ -\ Nokia3310.exe 0009:err:module:import_dll Library MSVBVM60.DLL (which is needed by L"Z:\\home\\aburd\\Downloads\\BriX - Nokia 3310\\BriX - Nokia3310.exe") not found 0009:err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Importing dlls for L"Z:\\home\\aburd\\Downloads\\BriX - Nokia 3310\\BriX - Nokia3310.exe" failed, status c0000135
```

I maxed out my engines and went as far north as I could! I guess I just missed it!

On my criticisms, like you said, there's only so much time and you have to make sacrifices! Either way great job.

Thanks for playing :) Wish we could have nailed the "game-feel" a bit better...

Coming from you, that is such a nice compliment! Absolutely loved your entry! Thank you thank you thank you.

(1 edit)

This is the best game I've played of the jam so far. Deceptively deep little game here. I spent an embarrassing amount of time playing this. Great job to your team. If only two people worked on this all I can say is "wow".

Comments:

- The adventure part of this game is really where this game shines. The fact that there are places where you can go until you level up is just *chefs kiss*. It made me want to play more, and made the collection necessary.  And the map! This game wouldn't have worked without the map! Nice work.

  - Combat was pretty fun, but in my opinion, this is where the game lacks the most. I was already not challenged by the enemies, by the time I upgraded my weapons, I was a god.

  - A boss would have been perfect! I would have even sacrificed some other stuff in the game for at least one boss.

- Great UI. The little fade transitions felt nice, selling things at the shop really gave that feeling like, what was my "catch" today. So rad!
  - Only gripe is that you should have a counter for fish, not just money. At first I was so lost if I was doing anything or not, cause I just had a huge fat zero in the UI even though I felt like I was doing something.

- And also great work on the extra material that went along with the game! Without the explanation of controls and game world on the itch.io game page, I wouldn't have understood the game and played it as much!

I got every fish in the collection except fish #1, is that the golden fish???

This should actually exist on a 3310

Wow, even had a linux build :) Very cute little dungeon crawler. Cool looking graphics. Wish it had a biiit more to it, but it was fun.

Enjoyed it very much. Limited mechanics, but a lot of little details with the environments and everything. Pretty cool.

I think I maxed out around 100. Such a fun little game! Loved it.

I was hoping someone would try bullet time! Good job.

Maybe this is just me, but I was wishing the game were a bit faster. I like the graphics and everything, but I thought the speed hurt the gameplay. I liked the puzzles though! Pretty challenging.

Once you realize you can push AND pull then you'll get it

I love the art! The game itself was not bad. The controls could have used a slight bit of work and maybe one more mechanic to spice it up a bit. Overall good work!

Not too bad! Some of the bullet patterns seemed almost inescapable but it was pretty to look at :) I also like how you tried to explain through playing rather than words. Thanks!

Ok, I was able to get it working using Wine!
I liked the idea. It's basically a Missile Command style game. I also like the music and screen transitions :) Although, if you're going for an arcade style game, the transitions could have been a little bit faster :)
But the controls were very hard for me to use! If I held the spacebar to shoot, I couldn't move my aiming!

Hmmm, lemme take a look with wine!

I wish I could check it out, but I'm on Linux!

There was definitely some weirdness with how the core gameplay loop worked and we definitely needed more levels!
Thanks so much for the feedback.

Thanks for the advice on the controls! Was there anything in particular we could have improved on?
Thanks for playing as well.

Wow, that's really great to hear you enjoyed it! Thank you so much.
