Description
You are flying across a vast expanse of tundra. The wind whips past you, the sound of the howling wind filling your ears, soft flakes pelting your face. The music swells. You've come a long way. Far off in the distance, you can see it finally. Home.

This piece, All Directions, All At Once, would be the final level score to a game that doesn't have a name. In this game, your character soars over mountains and through valleys, over steaming rainforests and across freezing lakes. In this flight simulator/survival game, the natural world is your greatest obstacle. The goal is to return home. The game is split into 4 different seasons in different parts of the world. The piece attached to this submission is the final level of the last season: winter.

Musically, I attempted to create a piece of music that captured the feeling of catching sight of home at the end of a long journey. The hope that comes with this feeling is the force that carries you through the most difficult part of the game, through the bitter cold and driving snow. I'm not sure what genre this would be.

Composed in Logic Pro X. Saxophones and clarinets were recorded originally for this recording by the composer, all other instruments come from various sample libraries.

Message from the artist:
I had a lot of fun making this! Thank you for listening :)

Theme:

Story of Seasons

How does it fit the theme?
The music is meant to accompany the final level in this video game, where the player races through a winter landscape towards home. Throughout the game, the player will have been faced with different seasons and challenges in different locations. When I composed the music, I attempted to get across the sounds of whipping winds and driving snow, high speed flying, and that hopeful desire (tinged with a bit of melancholy) to be at the end of the journey, the end of the final season.

really lovely, cyclical composition, which ties into the seasonal theme really nicely. Plus, major Philip Glass vibes! and I'm a sucker for that.  Great sax and clarinet work!

I loved the use of repeat melody with new elements being added to the harmony, making the track grow. Excellent composition!

so ethereal! really love the strings at 2:14

It's sounds so good man :o

I love the arrangement, it really feels like traversing a forest with all the inhabiting animals and birds
it has this kind of majesty you get from looking at a beautiful natural landscape, it's beautiful !

I probably would have played with the volume and the reverb of the sax to make it go on the background and support the main melody, it's kind of "in your face" at some times, but maybe this is a choice, in which case feel free to explain : i'm all ears ^^

Hey! Appreciate your thoughts on this! For the main saxophone loop, I felt like I wanted to keep it relatively dry in the mix, as it serves as the main forward motion and rhythm of the piece for me.

Okay, i see what role the sax fills now ^^
It's true that there are no proper rhythm section and putting it in the background would've robbed the piece of some of it's energy

The saxophones at times sound like geese, that really does wonders at make this piece feel like winter! Great creativity

This is a high quality production! indeed recorded instruments sounds so much better and i love how ostinatos on saxophone installs the winter-ish atmosphere without being some cliché illustration. Definitely gives me a fresh approach of the winter, nice job!

Thank you! I'm really glad you can hear the wintery-ness :) I really liked your composition as well.

I think it's a rare thing to find acoustically recorded brass and woodwind with this kind of thing, that alone is wonderful.

I loved the layering and the way this piece flowed with all its different lines and melodies, it felt very Steve Reich-esque. Excellent work!

Thanks, I appreciate the comparison! Playing sax started me on my music journey, so I try to work it in whenever I can.

Actual recorded saxophones and clarinet?  I knew there must be a reason they sound so good. That's really awesome, and it makes your submission highly unique.

I like your description to, it's well written. I was definitley able to sit back and imagine your game in my mind while the track played
