Description
A fantasy soundtrack composed to an open world exploration game with a set storyline. I started composing each track by bridging out the story and what I wanted vaguely then writing songs to build the world and define the image in my head my clearly. I used ProTools for all of this

Story: Starting the game, we see the main character in a world practically in ruins. A sunset lit up with fires and smoke seen from outside a train window. The main character starts on a train trying to run away from the problems in his life. While on the train this old man in fancy clothing approaches him and tells him his problems are far beyond this world. Wanting to know more, the main character asks what he means, and the old man opens a portal for the main character right in the train car. Stepping through the main character enters an open world more beautiful than anything he has ever seen. Creatures unlike anything on Earth and surprisingly all calm. The main character finds this civilization that tells him about a wishing well so powerful it can change lives. Motivated, he sets out to find where it lies deep in the Magical Forest. Full of obstacles that challenge the main character to see if they are persistent enough to deserve their wish.

Endings:
There are 2 different endings. The main character could wish his world to be more peaceful and return, or the main character wishes to stay in this world and join the people in the Town of Listern and live with them forever as one of their species

Theme:

Runaway
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The Main Character is running away from his problems and his world and at the end of the game decides to keep running away or turn and face them to change them.

Songs:
1. The Escape(running away from a world of hatred and war, to another world of peace and bliss)

2. Why do you Run(a reflective environmental track combining the instrumentation of the new world with the motif of The Escape key-ed up)

3. Magic of the Forest(exploration into uncharted lands. A journey into the world hidden behind thick layers of trees.)

4. Town of Listern(a town in the forest hidden away and protected by the magic. They tell the main character of a wishing well that has the power to grant just one wish to a person with the desire and will power to find it.)

5. Listern after dark(When the town sleeps, the main character heads out into the darkness of the forest. Only guided by the light of bioluminescent creatures)

6 .The Wishing Well(A well hidden deep in the forest, told to grant any wish to those who are dedicated enough to find it. Track itself is environmental to the area)

The Escape - Cool. Getting a bit of a twilight zone feel from the opening, but then it mixes in some sadness. I think you definitely captured that wistful feeling of leaving your home. I dig the cool synth patch at the end too. Definitely felt like leaving safety with the glass shattering foley and that synth.

Why do you Run - I really love the last few bars. Somehow it has both forward momentum, a nice beat and a wonderful calming feeling.

Magic of the Forest - This feels like it's some sort of exploration theme. I like the plucky sounds. And I really like those bassy strikes.

Town of Listen - Nice ambiences! I'm getting the feeling of a rather sleepy town. It's a very calming song.

Listern After Dark - I really like that you made two variants for this theme. I think this one complements the other really well and has a lovely relaxing feeling. I also love the almost synthwavey arp that punctuates it. This one is probably my favourite from the soundtrack.

The Wishing Well - Nice. This does feel like a nice conclusion piece. It's very calming and tranquil. Somehow I could imagine the game doing some exposition over this theme.

Great work! Beautiful pieces that feel like a cohesive whole. I pictured a game that's relatively zen (not too much action), but with a lot of narrative and/or exploration. It's a very pleasant soundtrack to listen to. Awesome work!

spectacular intro. very menacing, great atmosphere with these long notes in the background ant the ethereal reverb, then the relief in the second part as if a ray of sunshine hits your face.. only to be destroyed by something evil.  the entire following soundtrack was a captivating experience. I loved the wishing well. really soothing piece. nice job!

The atmosphere was cleverly created, with the sense that the soundtrack truly belonged to another world rich with character. While listening I found myself hoping for a shift in the dreamy pace of the tracks, and it wasn't until "Listern After Dark" with the fluctuating synth line that I found it (and it felt good). Well put together overall, with the potential to possibly elevate it even further (in my mind) with some chosen shifts in tempo to suggest movement or change for the character.

If I had more time I would've loved to create more tracks like Listern After Dark but that was the final track I made in the soundtrack with less than a day left to submit. Maybe in a full game this soundtrack would be like 30 tracks long to fit every vibe in the game.

Beautiful sounds right from the start. High production quality throughout really created a nice atmosphere. I feel like Magic of the Forest was a little long for such an atmospheric track, however, it was my favorite. And of course, in the context of a game, the long track would be a plus! Good work!

thanks! Magic of the Forest was definitely a surprise because it was a track that just got more and more detailed the more I created. didn’t notice how long it was until i zoomed out

Loved the kalimbas as well, and great atmosphere! It's intimate, reminds be a bit of Evil Twin on PS2

The pads are very nice as well, wonder that those are

Developer

The pads are from Omnisphere 2 by Spectronics. fantastic library of sounds but also extremely expensive

This one is really good. Great production quality and continuity between tracks. Some of the non-instrument sounds (like the breaking glass and footsteps) do stick out a bit, but those are minor issues in an otherwise great album. Good job!
