Description
These three tracks are my submission to the OST Composing Jam 5
I made them using Musescore 4 and the Musesounds instruments.
The first track is a solo harp piece, the second starts of somewhat classical but develops into something a bit different, and the last track is a sort of soft jazz.
I'm not great at identifying genres just find out for yourself.

A Wish Upon a Star: This track has hints of phrygian which make me think you may have also interpreted the picture theme as being in a desert instead of an ocean. The low harp sounds almost like a guitar and it made me think how a harp and guitar duet would be a fantastic way to perform this piece if it were performed live. It has such a gentle sound with deep emotional harmonies that I really enjoy listening to.
Falling Out of the Sky: This piece caught my attention because underneath the beautiful melodies are a cluster of strings that do not necessarily support the sweet nature of the melody. This gives me imagery of something sweet like a shooting star but with tense undertones like maybe the star doesn’t want to fall from the sky or maybe the ground is scary for some reason. In any case, way to paint a complex picture with this piece!
New Stars: The saxophone sounds spacey with the way it sounds like you doubled it/mixed it. The music itself seems to embody rebirth and the joy of coming into the universe, which I think fits the title of this track that you selected well. These are three very different songs but I think they all work together well to create a beautiful musical picture. Thank you for sharing!
Oh wow you completely found me out with a wish upon a star lol. I did imagine it being in a desert rather than an ocean when I saw the picture theme. And I was thinking about playing it on guitar but I liked the sound of the harp better although a combination of both for a live performance does sound like an amazing idea.
Thank you very much for your analysis of all the tracks!
Good work! I think New Stars is my favorite, with the saxophone managing to catch the peaceful atmosphere.
Thank you!
great work! I think falling out of the sky is my favorite, but I like solo flute so maybe a bit biased :p this was a really enjoyable listen, with good variety in each track thank you for sharing some wonderful tunes!
Thank you!
Really nice variety between the tracks, great job with this submission!
Thank you!
The harp solo track is kind of hypnotic and fits really well with the picture theme. The second track evoked like wide and slow waves with the two(three) chords calmly going back and forth. And the final one has a really mysterious vibe to it despite the jazzy mood given by the saxo, I liked it, it's like it never really wants to resolve...
You've captured the essence of the picture and the theme in a unique way, thank you for sharing :)
Thank you very much! With the last track I was thinking about giving it a stronger resolution at the end and looking back on it maybe I should have but I like the vibe of the song as is.
Great job! I love the mood you captured with your tracks. I enjoyed listening to your entry.
Thank you!
This is great! I like how the chord progression in 'a wish upon a star' feels more like it's waxing and waning from place to place instead of having concrete bounds to them - swapping upper notes, then lower notes, instead of both at once. The intro to falling out of the sky was quite striking, and the overall sound palette in that one is very compelling as well. and I always love me some saxophone so I quite enjoyed the last song by merit of that alone, but I feel like it also is a rather resounding finish to the overall soundtrack. good work on everything here!
Thank you so much for your kind words.
I really liked the soundtrack of "falling out of the sky", alarming, but at the same time with a soothing flute.
Thank you!
Lovely track, wish upon a star. Peaceful, yet mystical and engaging. Did you play this on an actual guitar?
Thank you very much. No I didn't play it on an actual guitar (its a harp in the song btw), I was thinking about it but I wanted to test out the new sounds that came out with the release of Musescore 4.
Ok I'm feeling stupid for not recognizing the harp. I used one too, actually one of my favorite instruments. Great choice!
