Description
The genre is electronic. Lots of synths everywhere! (except for track 3, which is a bit more "metal", but still has a synth) There's three different tracks (all loopable) and they are meant for a cyberpunk-themed RPG:
1) Titlescreen: This track would play on the titlescreen / load game screen.
2) Walking through the city: This would be the main overworld track.
3) Battle! Cyber gang: This track would play during battles.
I made the tracks in FL Studio, using almost only instruments from the FLEX sampler, which has great synths and midi instruments (except for the percussion of the second track, that one I took from one of the free Spitfire Audio LABS libraries).
I usually compose the songs starting from the basic rythm, first the bass and then the percussion, and then work on the melody, to make sure that the rythm isn't off. That's what I did here. I actually had some problems with the second track at first, because the rythm I wanted to make was too complicated and I didn't quite pull it off - I had to remake most of the song, and now I'm reasonably happy with it.
I was going for a "punk, back alley" kind of cyberpunk, meant for a story about teenager gangs or something.
I also made a quick pixel-art picture as an album cover using Aseprite.
Message from the artist:
Thanks for listening! I hope you like the tracks. I'm very happy to have participated in this jam. This is actually my first jam ever. I don't dare enter a gamedev jam (yet), but making songs? That I can do, haha. Thanks to the organisers! I'll keep an eye out for future jams.
How does it fit the theme?
Cyberpunk is a subgenre of scifi, so obviously we needed a futuristic feel, and atmospheric synths (with a lot of reverb) are perfect for that. I tried to go for what people most usually associate with cyberpunk, but adding a bit of a "creepy" feel to the overworld track (track 2), and also going for a bit more "punk/metal" in track 3, since it's supposed to represent a battle between two gangs.

Some great ideas. A bit of compression and EQ could have made these tracks stand out a bit more.
Thanks for the feedback! I don't have a lot of experience with mixing (most of my experience comes from chiptune trackers), so I'll keep it in mind for future tracks.
I really like all the sounds going on in the first track, a lot of cool stuff going on in it. Definitely got the creep factor of cyberpunk in the overworld theme, fits really well. My personal favorite is probably the third track, reminds me of classic rock/older metal stuff, really cool! Great tracks!
Thank you a lot!
Cool tracks. My favorite is the Title Screen, has a retro vibe I really dig. FLEX is underrated and I love how you mostly leaned into that! Great work!
Thank you! <3
Congrats on finishing your first game jam! That’s always a big step. :)
I definitely get JRPG vibes from these compositions, and I liked that you centered the bass, which gives things a grounded, somewhat grunge-y feel.
Thanks for sharing your music with us, and best of luck on your next jam!
Thanks a lot! <3 This was a lot of fun!
the FLEX sampler is pretty neat, the little bit I’ve used it!
Real outrun vibes in these tracks, I like the instrumentation and melodies a lot, and the cover art is also very appropriate!
One minor comment - I think the drums in Walking are clipping the mix, especially audible at 1:06, and, checking out the comments, I see that others commented on it too. I think, distortion on drums works very well, especially to add some warmth and girth, just gotta be mindful with it :D
Thank you a lot for the feedback! Noted on the drums, I'll totally revisit them when I get back to this track :)
Nice work with synth bass and rockin' drums ^_^.
Thank you! <3
Nice touch on recording the DAW. Now let's dive in :)
Titlescreen - Nice! Loving this melody. Nice choice of synths (love that bass patch) and a really great vibe overall. Really dig all the sounds you added to the drums too. The only thing is, I wish it was longer (but that's not a bad thing to wish :D)!
Walking Through The City - Cool. Again, nice choice of synths. Nice melodies. I feel this one is a little less strong than the opener, but still a good track. I feel the drums are holding this one back a little bit.
Battle! Cyber Gang - Really enjoyed the textures on that opening. The descending bass and that ambient sound. Cool stuff. The battle theme itself is also quite nice. I'm getting a bit of a 2D brawler vibe from this. Suitable for Cyberpunk I would say :D. Really like that it loops too actually.
My favourite is definitely the Titlescreen. Great work!
Thank you very much for the detailed feedback! I really appreciate it. You're right that the percussion in the second track is a bit weak - I had some problems with it, I will probably remake it at some point. And I'll definitely make longer versions of the three tracks. I'm glad you enjoyed them. Best wishes!
very cool work. Like a MegaDrive cyberpunk game😊
Thank you! :) I'm glad you got that vibe!
Nice work! The synth bass in the title track set the tone appropriately, I felt.
Honestly, I dug the distortion in the percussion, but I listened to them on my earbuds. Maybe on a stereo setup I might not like them as much, but I was certainly fan in what I heard.
Thank you! :) Glad you enjoyed them!
Nice work! The different tracks really fit their proposed use. The battle theme really gives a clear RPG vibe. I enjoyed listening to them all.
Minor suggestion: I think the 2nd track could use a bit more mixing work. The heavy distortion on the percussion is blowing out everything.
Thanks for the feedback! I was hesitant on the distortion, I'll keep that in mind and maybe tone it down a bit haha.
Title theme throws you right into the mood, and you kept up the feel throughout. Nice work!
Thanks! ^^
Really great choice of sounds! As soon as the first track started, it immediately set the vibe.
Thank you! <3
Nice catchy title theme! From the walking song this city sounds very hostile, which leads nicely into the last track. Great entry :)
Thank you so much <3
