Do you have any questions about the jam? Ask ’em here!

This will be the first game jam I have participated in so apologies for the naive question.

For the art assets are we allowed to use properly licensed assets from sites like GameArt.org or should we strictly create our own assets in the spirit of the jam?

Hey, Eric! So stoked you’re going to be participating in your first jam. Great question. You can use assets from wherever as long as you follow those license terms. Whether you find sprites or sound effects or music, you’re good to use them!

Appreciate the clarity Brett!

Are there any 2D or 3D assets that will be released for use on the first day of the jam?

Host

Nothing premade that I have planned. If someone makes them in advance, that’d be awesome. But I’m just going to start from scratch and do my best.

I have a few assets that might be useful on my sourcehut page: https://sr.ht/~ultidonki/

2D walking animations in 8 directions for Pepper, Saffron, Shichimi, Coriander, Camomile, Cinnamon and Spirulina. And a 4-direction walking animation for Carrot. All in the 'Pepper Carrot Farming' project.

I have a 3D walking, swimming and on broom animation for Pepper, plus some un-rigged and un-animated 3D models of Saffron, Shichimi and Coriander in the 'Pepper Carrot 3D platformer' project. They're all .gltf files but let me know if you want the .blend files too.

All the assets are licensed under CC-BY-SA-4.0+, but I'm happy to re-license these ones above under the CC-BY-4.0 license, same as the license the webcomic is released under if someone asks. Let me know if you want me to do that, otherwise they'll stay as CC-BY-SA for now.

These are really fantastic, nice! Thanks for sharing, ultidonki.

Found out an idea ! Started to work on game design and rules with the team ! It will be difficult to not start / do sometihng before the beginning...

That’s awesome! I think it’s okay to start beforehand if you want. It’s a casual jam, so no worries if you get going sooner!

So, well, first time using Itch.io, and I couldn't find how to submit my entry, but here's the project page if someone wants to take a look at it: https://quetzal2.itch.io/pc-finding-phoenix . Sorry for that.

I will look into how to make it playable on the web page directly tomorrow ^^ .

edit: I just realized that the submission actually seems to have worked somehow, even if it's pretty rough :D . I'll be fixing that today!

I think I had the same thing, I believe it's at the end of the edit game, there is the visibility. And when you first add it, it is not public, so you can't see it in the submissions or something. And when you make it public, it appears. Yesterday I panicked because of that 🙃

Yep, that definitely rings a bell 😆. (Well, as the message shows) I thought that I had failed. It was a pretty nice surprise when I saw the next day that it worked!

Quick post to say thanks to Brett Chapula for having created this jam, and thanks to everyone for helping and sharing their plans, projects and submissions!
