  • Very fun, played it over and over and enjoyed the puzzle aspect. Would like some more spell ideas, or a book with possibilities.

Shadowy creatures are running amok. Configure your alchemical engine to defeat waves of enemies.

Aetheric Twilight uses a pipe puzzle to control the actions of your character in RPG-like combat. Tiles connected to the correct elemental source will automatically charge and activate during combat. Tiles that synthesize multiple elements have powerful effects, but may be difficult to fit into your engine.

This is such a clever game, and a really fresh take on something like an auto battler. It's super fun! It was also kind of a small detail, but I really liked that when you fight the first boss, a new track in the background music is enabled (at least that's how I think you did it) giving those ominous vocals. Great work!

Thanks! Yeah, our music guy RobotGamerDev implemented some cool dynamic music switching. There is also a subtle difference between combat and non-combat modes during non-boss encounters.

I did notice the difference in combat music after making my original comment. Very cool! I've actually been thinking about dynamic music a bit and how it could be accomplished (I'm new to game dev). Do you or your music guy know of any good resources for learning about it?

Submitted

I realized after asking for resources that you already gave me everything I need, a new keyword to google (dynamic music). Thanks!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad and flattered you noticed! : )
I'm sure you can find details by googling, like I did, but the broad strokes are:
We used Godot, and to do the dynamic music, I used multiple AudioStreamPlayers. Each was tied to a different bus. when it was time to switch, I would get the current time of the one playing, start the new one at that time, then use a tween to turn the volume on one bus down and up on the other. It took some finagling of the different parameters of the tween to get it right, and I can hear where it's not perfect, so if I were to do it over I would just start one at max volume and stop the other, and hide the transition with some sound effect. : P

Loved it! I want to keep playing!

Thanks for playing!

Really loved this game.  Spent a good six hours playing it just trying out different ideas.  I found the gameplay had a really enjoyable flow, tickled my need to strategize and optimize, but never bogged me down in tedium.  Had a ton of fun and I'm sure I'll be messing with it for a while yet.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you found a lot of replayability in the system.

What a crazy-cool idea. It has all the looks of a tile-matching puzzle game, but I'm really building some sort of wild tangled alchemy machine! The visuals and animations are top-notch. Well done! You've got a follow from me.

Really awesome game! The mechanics are very cool and it is a lot of fun to play around with. I think my only point of feedback is its kind of unclear what is happening during combat, maybe a log of player and enemy attacks would help. But really this game is awesome and could defiantly be made into a full commercial game! Fantastic work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I agree that it can be a bit difficult to parse what is happening once there are lot of tiles and enemies triggering at the same time.

This game was really fun. Definitely set out to play a bunch of games tonight, but got hung up on this one! I had to beat the deer thing. I like the expansion mechanic, and the effects and puzzle fit really well together, good balance of effect and ease of placement.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Congrats on beating the Deer God.

This is definitely super fun and addicting, albeit quite challenging. Lost myself for like 30 minutes playing

Within minutes of starting the game, i lost myself fully enjoying this game and trying to come up with new strategies to do a full play through, i will be coming back to this later to see if i can get even further in it, well done :D

This has to be one of my favourites that I have played so far, however I found once I got the level when guns start to appear my health just went super fast, tried it a few ways but havent got past it yet.

Gotta watch out for the thorns on those hedgehogs! It's often a good idea to disconnect fast-attacking actions like the wind blades if there are still hedgehogs alive.

Thanks for playing!
