  • The game works well within the browser and the GDD is a good base for the development of the game, it is written in detail and well structured. The Art style is cute und the music with the sound effects is fitting well into the concept. I like that you did it on your own with your mouth. The weapons feel good, a bit more explanation might be helpful for what the weapons are used for within the game. The theme of the jam was well implemented, and is a lot of fun to play. It has a unique state as of you are balancing out and not just eliminate everything. It would be interesting to see the different species have different traits and if a certain species has a lot more population there are specific events tied to it. Try to show the effects of events and buildings somewhere in the UI as well.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
You bet I did.

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?

Summarise your game!
Introduction
In Bingus: REQUIEM, you play as an AI, created by a mysterious, malevolent being, programmed with only one protocol... to control the population of small, plant-like alien creatures only known as "Bingus". Your aim is is to keep the population within a certain threshold for as long as you can, using the tools given to you to aid in your task.

Mechanics/ Controls
Click-and-Drag/WASD - Move around the map
LMB - Select/Use weapon
Mouse Wheel - Zoom
ESC - pause game
The tools at your disposal:

Bombs: Have too many Bingus in one place? Blow 'em up!
Laser: More controlled than the bomb, but can still wipe out plenty of Bingus.
House: Produces more Bingus. Don't want them dying out, now!
Food Stalls: Bingus have to eat. Provide them with food to survive.
Fire: Too much food is bad. Get rid of it.
Every tool at your disposal requires food to use- better not run out...

Also, Bingus are living their own lives, and may incur strange random events, so be ready!

Story
For many years, the Bingus lived in harmony- a heavily populated planet, but still peaceful. That is, until Purge-a-Tron (you) appeared in the sky one day. Without knowledge as to why, or even what the task given is meant to accomplish, but those that own Purge-a-Tron were clear- destroy, but only so much that the population of this planet doesn't get out of control. The only problem is, the Purge-a-Tron has only been given limited tools, and can only do so much for so long. Will you meet the expectation of this strange entity, or will you, as they say, "fail yet again"?

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You play an AI that was made to manage a population by killing.

In this game, the destruction and death you cause in order to keep the population stable not only sticks to the theme, but being mindful of when to kill and how much killing or destruction needs to happen makes this game stand out among the others.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
There's a lot...
We can't think of anything in particular, but do hope you enjoy the humor we interlaced into the game, and we hope you have as much fun playing it as we had making it.

Cute little game. I liked the part where the Bingus says "Oh no!" The voice acting was pretty well done, I really enjoyed the gravitas around the accidental arson and festival of snuggles. Overall great concept to prove Thanos was right. 10/10

Hilariously evil concept. Love the voice acting. I was battling overpopulation the whole time, but never really needed to worry about the minimum. The cuddle festival got me, unfortunately. Also, the intro sequence was awesome lol

Nice art style, and the critters are very cute too! The concept is very interesting and I do like the idea of trying to maintain the population as long as possible, just that it sometimes feels like I am a bit lost on what to do next. The map is also big and it feels like there is a lot of potential there with biomes and such. Anyway good job!

Some tips for play (for the full experience):

  • In Early game (0-2 minutes): focus on building houses and food stalls to grow the population. There are events that can really hurt your population growth and can kill your run if you're not careful.
  • Mid-game (2-5 or 6 minutes): population should start to steady out, so this is a good opportunity to grow your food supply, so the Rot event doesn't absolutely destroy you in the late game. I usually start burning houses down at this point.
  • Late-game (6+ minutes): Bingus population rate grows exponentially at this point, so everything you can do to keep that number down will help maximize your score.

Hope this helps folks who are shooting for a high score! Glad to see so many of you are enjoying the game.

I like the art style. I got some houses and food producers but I was  never really sure what to do next. Seems interesting, I think you've got a good foundation to build on from here!

Very unique art style! I took me a good amount of time to figure what you're supposed to do.

Great game! I didnt have the heart to kill the cute guys at the start and unfortunately that was my demise :(

Very cute art style, I died to overpopulation, I wanted more bingus so I could kill more bingus, but alas, one can only have so many. Fun game.
