What style of retro game were you going for? (Year/Era/Console/etc)
Early 90s SNES era vertical shooters (similar to 19xx and Raiden)

Cool little shooter. Wish there was a bit of info like current health, score etc. Art & sound were pretty good and the feedback on hit and killing enemies wasn't bad either.

This was a pretty fun and competent shoot-em-up! The screen shake made the attacks feel juicy, I liked the variety in the enemies and how they fly in formations galaga style. The boss was a little easy but fun. Art/music aren't really super reminiscent of a retro shmup, but overall I just had a good time playing it, good job!

fun little space shooter, after the initial lag spike mentioned before the game ran well, and killing enemies and dodging bullets feels very satisfying. would've def liked to see more levels added. nice work!

I love shmups, they're one of my favorite genres to try! This is definitely reminiscent of Raiden, it's lots of fun to play. The ship moves a smidge too slow, in my opinion, and the keyboard controls are a little odd (I'd love to be able to use a controller), but the gameplay is still smooth and responsive.

The graphics don't quite give me a "SNES" feel-- but it'd be right at home next to some of the older Williams arcade games! The screen feels a bit empty without any GUI/HUD elements... I'd love to see a score increasing with every kill for that dopamine hit, or my ship's health so I know exactly how much trouble I'm in, heheh.
I love how you slowly introduced each enemy type one-by-one, then brought in the increasingly difficult combinations. The boss felt a bit underwhelming compared to some of the enemy patterns, I'd love to see more phases or attacks coming from such a massive battleship!

Overall, lots of the bullet patterns felt amazing to dance around-- with some balancing this could be an incredible bullet hell! I hope you continue work on it!

Thank you so much for playing! This is the first game we've ever made (and first game jam we've ever participated in), and we're really glad you enjoyed it.

We agree that the ship is a little slow, and planned to speed it up by 10-20%, but unfortunately ran out of time before the jam deadline. As for controller controls, that is something we also started working on but unfortunately ran out of time for. A shame, because playing shmups just feels so much better on a controller. We also discussed a score system as a great way to add replayability and a bit more fun factor, and that's something we'd like to integrate soon as well. Thank you for the valuable feedback!

Oh wow! You all did a fantastic job for a first game, and even more so for a first jam!
I hope you all had a great time, can't wait to see more from you-- I see lots of potential!

It lacks feedback on the player actions, and I feel like the ship moves a little slowly, but otherwise seemed pretty good!

Developer

Can you elaborate on the player action feedback? We agree that the ship moves a bit too slowly and planned on boosting the speed by 10-20%, but ran out of time for the jam. Thanks so much for playing!

The game lags a bit too much, but it looks pretty. Also I don't think  it feels like a SNES shoot'em up.

Developer

Yeah, there's a bit of lag in the web version we can't quite figure out, but the desktop version seems to run great for us.

Thanks for playing!
