Title
Light and Shadows
Description
For this song, I was inspired by the picture theme, which to me seemed to depict a world of peace and beauty contrasted with the presence of darkness. The song attempts to capture that change to a darker state—so it starts out light and positive, then becomes more and more ominous up until the end. I made it using Garageband, mostly on my tablet due to storm constraints.
I never studied music theory, so hopefully I did the triplets thing correctly! Apart from that, feedback on the mixing would be really helpful, since I’m not so confident on how well I pulled that off…
Anyway, I really enjoyed this jam, getting to experiment with the prompt was a lot of fun :)

This was a really nice composition! I am impressed
Thanks ^^
Really repetetive, mostly because of that motif you used that repeats throughout the entire song. You should change it up every now and then to avoid this.
Thanks for the feedback! For the motif, I was trying to make a melody that could stay the same but still transform by the end of the song. Admittedly though, I do sometimes have trouble making tunes that don’t repeat parts too much—I’ll try to work more on this in the future.
Excellent! I thought it was going to be simple chiptune. No, it's much more than that. I don't know if you know Anamanaguchi, but for me it's very close. I love the sound you send us at 0'23". That's when you realize you're dealing with a great composition.
On the other hand, I wasn't convinced by the slow return of the growling bass from 1'13". That's just my personal taste.
Otherwise, the melody is sublime and the choice of chords is top-notch. Your music transported me.
Thank you, that makes me so happy to hear! I don’t know much about music theory so I just chose chords that sounded right. Also I’ve never heard of Anamanaguchi, but I guess I should check it out :)
Super interesting. It's like listening to a trip-hop version of Where is My Mind. Weird combination, but that's what it evokes in me. I like how it starts as an 8-bit track and then the synth and drums come in to give a richer sound. Beautiful arrangement and sounds!
Trip hop is one of my favorite kinds of music, so I can never escape its influence lol
Thank you so much for listening!
You really got a good ambience in this! This feels like it would go great as a menu/intro tune of a pixel art styled game.
Thank you! :)
Love the imagination in this song! I especially like the quiet section in the middle of the song - the title really reflects the song well. The mixing levels sound good to my semi-untrained ears. Only thing is I think the lead used in the intro doesn't really stand up to the bass. Maybe it could be layered with something when the bass comes in or just a different sound handling the melody. I really enjoyed it!
You’re right, I think I could’ve tried using either a more popcorny or a more blippy synth sound (if any of that makes sense lol) once the bass came in, instead of just tossing a pad into the background :P Thank you for the feedback, I’m glad you enjoyed listening!
Daaamn! like the omnious transition that starts from 01:14!
You incorporated it really well.
One thing I do think could be improved, The bass sounds very aggressive when it's alone like that in that intro part
I think maybe some soothing to it with a very light chorus or something like that might have helped, not sure though as I'd have to try for myself
Really liked that one! Keep creating music!
Thank you! The ominous bit was my favorite part to make :)
Now that you mention it, a light chorus would’ve sounded quite nice in the middle section of my song…I’ll note that in case I create anything styled like this in the future! As for the bass, I essentially layered two bass synth sounds at once which might’ve doubled the volume a bit XD but hey, it was too quiet beforehand so I did what I could T-T
