You can infact remove reverb, although the options available are kinda expensive from what I know
I use Waves' Clarity DeReverb for t, it's supposed to be for vocals but I found it works pretty good for transient samples as well!

Having all your instruemnts being the challange requirements (Except piano) is wild lol, good job on this goober song!
I think some points (like in 1:30) might need a tiny bit of balancing but other than that this is the exact kind of songs I expected from this challange lol.
Also I love the catjak image!
May I keep it?
Really liked your composition!
I feel like some of the instruments break the "feel" of the song sounding a bit MIDI-ish compared to others,
But overall great!
I will have to agree with Aurelien & Jofes about the challange's essence though,
The amen break barely "breaks" through (lol).
I get how incorporating it kinda ruins the vibe of the song,
if you ask me I prefer it that way as it's very cool sounding but it does miss the challange's point.
I liked the beginning & the groove the drum's doing under everything,
but I think the Lead had a bit too much reverb.
Might be personal preferece but it made it a bit muddy for my taste
especially when mixed together with the pad in the background & many pipes.
Overall I think that if you work on the mix a bit you can get a pretty neat tune!
Only things that were a bit weird for me were the ubrupt ending & I think some parts / samples are out of key?
Not sure if intentional but I didn't fancy it much...
Oh and I also agree with TheSnowly on the pipe, maybe some editing to make it fit into the song's atmoshpere a bit would make it better!
Other than that - pretty neat composition, keep on creating!
Composition sounds cool! not much to say about it lol as I don't think I have much to add there...
Regarding what you said about the mixing -
I'd try to fade the instruments where I don't want these clashes.
I saw you used MuseScore and I have no idea how it works (More of a sheet music reading rather than a DAW right?)
but I did find this comment from the forums:
"For playback of a fadeout, you can use a decrescendo. See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/hairpins#cresc-dim-lines
If it's a musical phrase (e.g., a few bars) that repeats during the fade out, you notate all the repeated bars.
Have a listen to this example:
4 Bar Fade Out.mscz
Also, see:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/dynamics
Especially:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/dynamics#adjust-properties
to edit the velocity (volume) of a dynamic.
You can fine tune the velocity of note(s) in the Inspector:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/inspector#note"
Hope that helps!
The composition's is very chill! I can really imagine this track for the image we were given.
(I also read you wanted to create a tracks feeling with the drums, nice idea! I would have used 8th notes closed Hihats with an emphasis on beat and a slight shuffle maybe to re-create the effect).
However I gotta agree with the previous comments regarding the mix;
the Guitar's really good & crisp but I think your kick drum clips, especially in the beginning, & the overall mix between the drums & other parts feels lackluster...
Maybe once you're done composing, try to re-balance your tracks to find the sweet spot for each instrument.
I usually group the drums and balance each part inside the group (If I don't use loops).
afterwards I will balance the group compared to the other instruments & so on.
For the bass, I'd put more emphasis on the low end (As Gullo said) to really make that Bass carry the track along.
Regarding the end, I'd go for a more natural fade out - let that last note play out for really long & make it fade to -inf dB by the end of the to avoid getting this cut.
Hope this helps in some way, I might just like a different taste for mixing :)
Great simple piece!
Lol, Funny imagining a drummer playing these side sticks on a gig but it could be a thing
I like the composition! always wanted to be able to just do weird stuff lol.
Especially at the 3 minutes mark!
However, something about the instruments / samples you used doesn't click for me,
like they don't really match together or I don't get the impact you were trying to pass with it...
idk how hard it is but maybe layering the percussion or compressing the bass to really make the slapping come accross...
I feel that maybe using multiple sources for each percussion (Like 3 types of snares for each part) would really benifit the composition.
However it is a jam and I too cut corners to make it in time lol.
Keep on making things!
In case you're planning on running this jam again in the future,
I think it'll be nice to add free text boxes in the submission form that allowed the creator to tell us about their track .
it could be which plugins / virtual instruemnts / actual instruments they used,
their thought process for the composition, etc...
Just a little fun way for others to learn from tracks they liked & for us to form a dialogue as a community :)
Thanks for the fun Jam ide Gullo!
I think you're clipping on some parts of the track, makes it kinda hurtful to listen to on high volume.
you might want to place a limiter on your master channel to avoid it or just adjust the piano's volume :)
I'd also let the ending fade out longer to make it sound more natural & not cut out at the end.
Something I did weas use the sound of the foot being removed from the pedal to avoid the tail being too long, but you can also automate your volume for a more natural artifical fade out.
Nice composition! Keep creating & getting better!
Very nice! 5/5 on composition for sure :)
I agree with purpleskky that the piano is muffled,
kinda weakens the lower frequencies & removes the dramatic clicks from the mid / high keys.
I think you could have sent the Piano to a parallel reverb (If you didn't since it sounds like it, and if you did just send the level less or automate it to your needs) and make the Reverb very dominant but still keep all the properties of the Piano which make the playing just much more dynamic and emotional.
You telling me Intimate Grand Piano doesn't have a sustain pedal??
Kinda sounds like a lulliby at the beginning,
the effects afterwards make it sounds like you're sleep deprived :).
I agree with Jofes it does stray a bit from the challange and a bit repetitive for a piano only track,
but I bet that re-constructing this with more instruments could make a pretty cool track for a video game!
To add to Jofes' comment, when you use Delay then lower notes can get kinda muddy and weight the composition down a bit.
also when using clicky keys the delay can amplify the clickiness which can make it kinda "hurtful" listening to
You can Filter out the lower frequencies on the Delay's channel (if you used parallel effect) and EQ the "hurting" frequencies to make the tone of it a bit more pleasant to hear.
other than that keep on going!
Daaamn! like the omnious transition that starts from 01:14!
You incorporated it really well.
One thing I do think could be improved, The bass sounds very aggressive when it's alone like that in that intro part
I think maybe some soothing to it with a very light chorus or something like that might have helped, not sure though as I'd have to try for myself
Really liked that one! Keep creating music!
Pretty cool idea making it all from Sibelius, Probably wouldn't have thought aboutsomething like that myself
Did you do anything with the mix or is it all NotePerformer?
If this is only gain stagint his sounds AMAZING for a program!
I liked the composition, very nice
I also need to work on orhcastration but I figure learning proper music theory first would be benificial :*)
Yoo I hope you gave Abe a call back lol
The composition's fire!
Something that was a bit problematic for me was the overall Reverb-ish vibe on the orchestra,
feels like too much for me.
I mean I know orchestral recordings are usually in a big hall so reverb is part of it,
maybe it's just the instrumnets you used though & my personal preference of it
Real flash game vibes to it lol, stayed true to the cat gang!
Something I heard that I hear in my compositions and I think might be the case here,
is that sometimes it feels like you don't really know where to take the idea you created and you start noodling on it with lots of different instruments & sound textures.
It works good on this track because it really leans into the whole silly cat theme,
but I think working on newer ways to introduce movement to your composition could be a good tool moving forwards.
I still struggle with this one so maybe it's just deflection :' )
