Title
The Hunt

Description
I made the song starting from the sample melody and played mostly with duration of the notes and bars. I used ableton, mostly with sample from orchestral instruments with distortions on them.

Plugins used
Various sampled instruments, processed through redux, saturation etc. Ableton's burned kit for drums.

You've made a real choice/work on the texture of the sounds. It's surprising and cool to listen to. You've kept the rhythmic form of the motif but distorted it enough to make it your own (I was much more academic) and I like that.

The mix could be a little clearer with some EQ to separate the bass more.

I really like the fact that you slow down the tempo. It's a very creative track. Good work

Thanks, I try to work a lot on the texture, and I'm glad when it pays off. I'm also trying to work more on the mix, but surely this time I've made mistake and I will try to learn from that. Thanks for listening and for the comment!

It seems the drums could be a bit louder or sidechained? And I really like the transistion effect you made from the low to the high energy part and back to the low part! The overall sound is nice and energetic (maybe a bit more punch). The image is quite fitting to the track, it reminds me of some futuristic setting. Well done!

Thanks a lot! Yeah, the drums surely have some mix issues, and somehow I didn't even realize it until someone said it in the comment. I'll have to be careful next time!

I love the energy this gives, it definitely feels like a chase around a big futuristic metropolis. It reminds me a lot to “City chase” by waterflame. My only 2 things with this song are that the drums are maybe a little low and it is very repetitive, but great work!

Thanks for listening and for the comment! I just listened to the song you mentioned, and it's very powerful, so I'm glad mine reminds of that even just a bit. Also thanks for the 2 notes. While I'm aware of the repetitiveness, I didn't notice the low drums, but you're right, so thanks for that

I liked how the theme is integrated into most of the piece, and the overall energy combined with that slowdown in the middle is super cool! Perhaps introducing more contrasting sections that deliberately forgoes using the theme, or letting a different instrument play the melody could make the music even more interesting. Overall, I enjoyed how the music really sticks to that central theme of the energy and tension of being hunted, great job!

Thank you so much for listening and for the comment! I definitely have to work on variating my tracks in general, so I agree with you

Very lively track! The theme/motif is repeated quite a lot though. In the future, I’d try expanding the motif more or adding sections that give a little more variety. Good work!

Thank you for listening! I'm realizing only now that I probably misunderstood the challenge and did fewer variations than I could have done, so you're totally right

It felt very samey for most of the song, like the challenge theme didn't go further than what was done at the very beginning of the song.
